Pre-registered participants will have the opportunity to discover one of five local higher education institutions, meet students and faculty, and forge new connections. This year, our Keynote speakers are as exceptional as they are diverse. 15 13 REFUGEES IN FOCUS Dignity in aid Plenary Wednesday, 13:00 13:45, Arena The Refugees in focus track will be opened by none other than expert aid worker Kilian Kleinschmidt. With over 25 years experience in a wide range of emergencies and refugee camps, Kilian has worked in Somalia, Pakistan, Kosovo and, most famously, Northern Jordan. There, on behalf of UNHCR, he managed the Za'atari refugee camp the absolute benchmark for innovative approaches to humanitarian crises. His methods are exceptional and his deep knowledge of crisis response is a true inspiration for anyone working in the current refugee crisis in Europe. 18 16 MEET THE EAIE EXPERT COMMUNITIES The 15 EAIE Expert Communities are groups that provide support, networking opportunities and resources for professionals working in specific areas of international higher education. They play a big part in the selection of conference sessions and identifying the most relevant topics within their own fields of expertise. Each Expert Community hosts its own Feature session on Wednesday 14 September, where conference participants have a chance to come into contact with these key experts in our community. Additionally, several Expert Communities host receptions, see page for more information. Access and Diversity This Expert Community strives for equal access and participation in all aspects of higher education, especially international mobility. FEATURE SESSION Exploring universal design for learning as a global, systemic accessibility framework (S3.03) Admission and Recognition A prevalent issue for international education, Admission and Recognition provides a much-needed forum for addressing issues of credential fraud and authenticity. FEATURE SESSION The pursuit of internationalisation at home is here to stay (S4.02) Language and Culture This Expert Community focuses on the university s role in helping individuals and society navigate the many dimensions of a multilingual world. FEATURE SESSION What is English-medium instruction like for students? (S2.06) Marketing and Recruitment International marketing and recruitment are ever-expanding areas of our field. This Expert Community is a platform for international marketers to share best practices. FEATURE SESSION How heart, humour and common sense will make your marketing more effective (S3.02) Mobility Advising This Expert Community is aimed at giving those who advise on study abroad opportunities and promote international programmes at their institutions a platform to connect. FEATURE SESSION What are the crucial quality standards and principles of outbound mobility advising? (S3.05) offers a platform for those who drive the decision-making processes and set future directions at their universities and/or departments to learn from one another. FEATURE SESSION Corporate social responsibility, a framework for better international engagement (S2.02) Summer Schools Developing summer schools requires a different approach to other academic programmes. This Expert Community helps professionals exchange ideas and tricks of the trade. FEATURE SESSION How to use your summer school for maximum strategic effect (S2.05) WELCOMING A NEW KID IN TOWN This year, we are proud to present the brand new EAIE Network Joint Programmes: the forum for discussing the development, management, and quality assurance of joint programmes. 21 19 Interactive session formats Fishbowl sessions have a distinct room setup consisting of rippling circles surrounding a four-stool fishbowl of speakers, allowing individuals in large groups to participate in the discussion. Senior International Officer perspectives are interactive roundtable discussions aimed specifically at Senior International Officers, addressing the key issues pertaining to their role at higher education institutions. World Café sessions offer structured conversations intended to facilitate open discussion and to access the collective knowledge in the room. You ll move between a series of tables where you'll discuss a set of predefined questions. Peer discussions are 30-minute discussions led by EAIE Expert Community members following specific sessions where we tap into the collective wisdom in the room to take the discussions from the previous session deeper. In-app polling will be used in the highly interactive sessions where participants opinions are tallied on the spot. To participate in these polls, make sure to download the EAIE Events App. Ignite sessions are fast-paced sessions where slides automatically jump every 15 seconds. Participants get to ask questions directly to presenters after their five minutes on stage, keeping speakers on their A game and the audience entertained. Refugees in focus A full, 14-session track at the conference is dedicated to one of the most significant issues affecting the higher education sector in Europe today. See page 13 for more information. Life-skill sessions This year, we offer five Life-skill sessions to help inspire you professionally and personally. Covering vital organisational and social skills such as networking, managing your s and negotiating, you are sure to benefit from these hands-on sessions.
