Notify the principal, who will assess situation, verify information, and notify 911*** Notify CPR/first aid team of medical emergencies. Notify a crisis team member and seal off high-risk area. Take charge of area until incident is contained or relieved by direction of Principal. Shelter in place or evacuate the building. Nature of incident may require alternate evacuation site. Designate a control area; maintain a phone log of incoming and outgoing calls and a timed sequence of events. Crisis team members deliver any additional instructions from control center to classrooms and also collect status information. 6 Staff Training Plan Review school based plan at the beginning of each school year; include emergency plan procedure in teacher handbook. Phone tree and room assignments will also be included in the emergency plan. Check out procedures during emergency situations Parent/guardian permission is required for check out Students be supervised until parent or approved guardian arrives Sign out sheets for students will be maintained in the main office or in front of building if appropriate. Secretaries and Assistant Principals will maintain check out area and monitor check outs In the event of an evacuation, check- outs will be monitored at the entrance of the football stadium. At the alternate evacuation site, checkouts will be monitored from the church vestibule. Teachers must also document when their students are called to the check-out location; students may not be released without documentation Students kept in class During a crisis, teachers take roll. This roll is to remain with the teacher throughout the crisis. Remain calm and instruct students to do the same. Wing monitors will keep teachers informed of official information. 7 Warning and Notification Codes Code words will be used in situations in which immediate notification is necessary. The codes will inform personnel of the type of emergency and appropriate actions. Code Words Emergency Actions Lockdown Medical Emergency Intruder/Hostage Weapons Alert Drug Detection Violent Act/Shooting/Stabbing Gang Alert See lockdown plan Evacuate Fire Hazardous Materials Incident Bomb Threat Explosion See evacuation plan 1 and evacuation plan 2 for alternate site Shelter in Place Tornado Lightening Storm Severe Weather See sheltering plan Lockdown Procedures - May be issued in situations involving dangerous intruders or other incidents that may result in harm to persons inside school building. Evacuation/Relocation Procedures May be issued in situations or incidents that may cause harm to persons remaining inside the school building. Sheltering Procedures Provides refuge for students, staff, and public within school building during an emergency. Shelters will be located in areas that maximize the safety of inhabitants. Safe areas may change depending on emergency.
8 Lockdown Plan In the event of a lockdown, there will be no movement of students, staff, or visitors. 9 Evacuate/Relocate Plan 1 Teachers, students, and other school personnel are to evacuate the buildings immediately and quickly walk to the football stadium. Checkouts will be monitored from the main entrance of the stadium. Location/Wing Procedures All Buildings Calmly exit in straight lines through the assigned exit for your area (See Map) Take attendance roster and crisis folder Follow evacuation path (See Map) to the back of the school Proceed to the football stadium bleachers Take roll and sit with your class Wait for All clear announcement Evacuate/Relocate Plan 2-Alternate Site Teachers, students, and other school personnel are to immediately and quickly evacuate the buildings and proceed in an orderly manner through the school gates down the Varnado Street sidewalks. Students will cross street and take left on Main Street (Hwy. 16) with guidance from teachers. Proceed to Sampson Street. Take right on Sampson Street. Continue onto Cleveland Street. Proceed on Cleveland until reach Centenary Methodist at Cleveland and Pearl. Checkouts will be monitored from the main entrance of the church. Location/Wing Procedures All Buildings Calmly exit in straight lines through assigned exit for your area (See Map) Take attendance roster and crisis folder Fall into straight lines along Varnado St. sidewalks Take special care to keep children safe, in line, out of traffic Follow evacuation route to Centenary Methodist Church Keep students in orderly, safe lines while proceeding to destination Seat students grades 6-12 by class in church sanctuary; grades 5 & below in the church classrooms; stay with your students Take attendance Wait for All clear Do not release a student without proper sign-out procedure; parents must report to vestibule of church/students will be called
10 Sheltering Plan In case of severe weather the students and staff should immediately report to assigned shelter areas inside the building. Window should be raised slightly to prevent pressure build-up. Everyone should sit or lie face down on the floor and cover face and eyes for maximum protection. 13 Media Procedures All staff must refer media to Principal and/or Board President Principal assumes responsibility for developing public statements during an emergency.
