1 CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN A.S.RHODES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

2 General Emergency Teachers: 1. Remain calm. 2. Sit or lay student at the site of incident or injury. 3. Keep student as quiet as possible. 4. Use walkie talkie or send a designated person to call nurse and the office to report the specific information. 5. Office personnel will call 911 for assistance if needed. 6. School nurse shall immediately contact parent or guardian. 7. Office personnel will notify Superintendent. Students: Students in the affected area shall move away from injured person. Principal/Designee Secure building & grounds and direct emergency efforts. Custodian: Assist clean-up efforts as directed by the administrator or designee. Secretary/designee: Call emergency personnel, central office and if need the school resource officer. Nurse/designee: Attend to student and contact parent.

3 Fire Drill Teachers: 8. Remain calm. 9. Collect Emergency packet, attendance notebook, keys and walkie talkie. 10. Direct students to the appropriate exit. 11. Leave all materials, lights, and doors in their original positions. 12. Proceed to the designated area in a quiet, orderly manner. 13. Take attendance and report missing students to office. 14. Communicate any concerns to the administration via walkie talkie. 15. Staff members not directly supervising students are to report outside. 16. Be alert to the need for further movement as directed by an administrator/designee. 17. Wait for further instructions. Re-enter the building when bell rings. Students: Line up quickly and quietly. Students not in class report to the nearest adult. Principal/Designee Begin drill with the sounding of the fire alarm. Secure building and direct emergency efforts. Custodian: Exit building and report to principal/designee. Secretary/designee: Call Dyna-watch, Fire Dept and school resource officer. Exit building with visitor sign-in sheet, student sign in/sign out sheet and walkie talkie. Nurse/designee: Exit building with medications, first aid kit and student emergency information.

Direct students to sit on the floor with legs crossed, body bent at the waist, and hands behind their heads for protection. 22. This position is maintained until drill is over. 23. Take attendance and report missing students to office. 24. Communicate any concerns to the administration via walkie talkie. 25. Re-enter your classroom when bell rings. Students: Line up quickly and quietly and move to designated area under the direction of the teacher. Students not in class report to the nearest adult. Principal/Designee Begin drill announcement on PA system. Secure building and direct emergency efforts. Custodian: Lock outside doors and report to principal/designee. Survey facility for damages and report to principal/designee. Secretary/designee: Call emergency personnel, central office and school resource officer. Collect visitor sign-in sheet, student sign in/sign out sheet and walkie talkie. Move to a safe area. Nurse/designee: Collect medications, first aid kit and student emergency information. Move to a safe area. Report to injured persons when directed to do so. TORNADO DRILL

6 Lock Down/Intruder Drill An announcement will be made over the school loudspeaker that there is a LOCKDOWN. Once the lockdown command is given, the staff should do the following: Teachers: Doors will be locked Lights will remain off Window shades will be left open If possible turn the GREEN/RED card that is located on the door so that the correct color is facing out into the hall: Red signifying injuries in the room and Green signifying that all persons in the room are safe. Students should be kept quiet If students or staff are not in a room they should try to hide as best they can Do Not open or answer the door for anyone until the lockdown is over The signal for the end of the lockdown will be Code Green. The Code Green may be given over the loudspeaker or by law enforcement at the doors. We ask that the staff keep the windows and doors of the classroom uncovered so that officers can visually inspect the interior of the classrooms as they do their search. Parents: No Students will be released to parents and/or leave the building without prior approval from the principal or administrator in charge. All parents are to remain in their cars in the parking lot until it is clear to release children. Principal: The Principal will be in the office with the office staff maintaining contact with the School Board office and/or Sheriff s Office as appropriate. The principal or administrator in charge will be the only person to contact the School Board Office and handle all updates as appropriate. Begin drill with appropriate announcement Lockdown. End drill with Code Green. Students: Sit quickly and quietly in appropriate area of the classroom. Remain silent. Students not in class report to the nearest adult if possible. If in bathrooms, remain quiet and hide if possible. Stay away from door. Stay out of the hallway.

7 Custodian: Report to a safe area. Secretary/designee: Call central office and school resource officer. Collect visitor sign-in sheet, student sign in/sign out sheet and walkie talkie. Lock office door, turn off lights and move to safe area. Nurse/designee: Collect medications, first aid kit and student emergency information. Move to safe area. Report to injured persons when directed to do so. LOCK DOWN/INTRUDER DRILL

8 Threatening Phone Calls In case of a bomb threat or nuisance call: 1. Take call. 2. Write down the exact time, telephone line, and phone number for the call. 3. Call Sprint Tact Center at and give them information. 4. Complete the threatening call report form while talking on the phone, if possible. 5. Inform you immediate Supervisor. Call the Warren County Sheriff s Office at and advise them what has happened. 6. Notify the Superintendent s office at ext. 4 as soon as the call to the Sheriff s office has been made. Scan classroom and hallway for suspicious items, reporting any unusual findings. 7. Take attendance and report missing students to the office. 8. Staff members not directly supervising students are to report outside. 9. Be alert to the need for further movement as directed by an administrator/designee. 10. Do not use portable electronic devices, walkie talkies, or cell phones. 11. Wait for further instructions. Re-enter the building when bell rings. Students: Line up quickly and quietly. Students not in class report to the nearest adult. Principal/Designee: Begin drill with the sounding of the fire alarm Secure the building and direct emergency efforts. Custodian: Exit building and report to principal/designee. Secretary/designee: Call central office and school resource officer. Exit building with visitor sign in sheet, student sign in/sign out sheet and walkie talkie. Nurse/designee: Exit building with medications, first aid kit and student emergency information.
