NICU 8A & 8C STAFF MEETING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2014
ACCOLADES Praise from Patients All the staff! Everybody here has been great! I love this hospital. This is the best hospital I have ever been to. All of the staff are friendly, informative, helpful, kind, encouraging, etc Mother of MaKenna Hazelip Bergholz
ACCOLADES Shining Star Card Karyn is one of our best patient & family advocates. She is the kind of bedside nurse who gives Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh such an amazing reputation for being a caring place. Recently she had to deal with a very difficult family who gave her a hard time. Most people would have refused to care for their baby again. Instead, Karyn went right back to caring for this tiny baby and worked even harder to help the young mother by going the extra mile in educating her about the baby's condition and teaching this Mom how to participate in care. The next day the Mom came to me to tell me how much more she "feels like a real Mom" because of the new skills that Karyn taught while including her in the baby's care. With another baby, who was very difficult for the nurses to care for, Karyn volunteered to do continuity-of-care for him. Prior to that time this baby's parents were somewhat difficult to deal with. I saw that their positive attitude change was a result of the good education and support they received from Karyn, and also the fact that she was very honest with them and strongly encouraged the Nurse Practitioners and doctors to be more forthcoming about the baby's prognosis. The NICU is most fortunate to have this fine and very professional as a member of our team, and our babies are very blessed to have such a loving and compassionate person to care for them so tenderly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Peg, Bev, Steph, and I are very proud to be a part of a STRONG multidisciplinary force all working together within two great units to achieve the one ultimate goal.provide the best care possible for our babies and families. The work and dedication you all display daily is truly a miracle within itself and never goes unnoticed regardless of how busy we are. The first step in continuing our excellence is recognizing our challenges. A gap within our working relationships between the RN s and the NNP s has been voiced by you, and must be addressed. In doing so we need to take a look at the hospital core values and our own values as a peer to our coworkers. -Dignity and Respect -Caring and Listening Peg, Steph, and I will be holding breakout sessions in small groups and at the huddles. This will provide everyone an opportunity to voice their thoughts in person and have a positive conversation. We will also be asking for RN and NNP volunteers to help design strategies that will improve the working relationships between these two groups.
FLU SHOTS We work with a high risk population so it is extremely important that we have high compliance with flu prevention vaccinations. Please see your CL or one of your Leadership team members today to receive your shot! -Questions ask the pro Marvis Rhea
CONDITION A OR C ON 8A -8A is still an acute care floor -Condition A or C must be called By dialing
