Director of Prospect Research Carolinas HealthCare Foundation Charlotte, NC Send Nominations or Cover Letter and Resume to: Jill Lasman Senior Vice President Overview: Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS), one of the leading healthcare organizations in the Southeast and one of the most comprehensive, not-for-profit systems in the country, is continually recognized locally and nationally for its commitment to delivering efficient, quality care. Carolinas HealthCare System provides care that is clinically excellent and genuinely compassionate. Its roots date back to 1940, when Charlotte Memorial Hospital opened its doors and took in patients transferred from what was called St. Peter s Hospital. And, while it has been more than 75 years since its founding, CHS is more committed than ever to the bedrock of its mission: providing care for everyone, regardless of who they are, what they look like or the size of their bank account. Every day there is opportunity to further build on its legacy of compassionate care by leading the way in the delivery of value-based care and providing access to world-class services in its communities. CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 1
Carolinas HealthCare Foundation (CHF) provides significant financial support for programs and services within Carolinas HealthCare System, including institutions such as Levine Cancer Institute, Levine Children s Hospital, the James G. Cannon Research Center and Carolinas Medical Center. The Foundation supports a broad range of facilities, programs and services within Carolinas HealthCare System, including heart care, cancer care, pediatric care and rehabilitation. Charitable contributions enhance wellness and support medical education, research and the overall advancement of healthcare in the Carolinas. Philanthropy, from both corporate partners and individual gifts, is often the difference between simply good and truly excellent healthcare programs and services. In some cases, philanthropy is the only means of support for a program or service. The Opportunity: Carolinas HealthCare Foundation seeks a seasoned industry expert for the inaugural role of Director of Prospect Research. With new leadership at the helm, including President and CEO of the System Eugene Woods and President of the Foundation Armando Chardiet, both prominent experts in their respective industries, the enterprise is making a significant investment to grow and build a best-in-class fundraising operation at Carolinas HealthCare Foundation in support of CHS s mission to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing for all. The incoming Director of Prospect Research will partner with both the President of the Foundation and the Senior Vice President of Development to create a leading-edge research operation. Leadership views the research function as a key component in elevating the fundraising operation to ultimately support a high-level grateful patient program. Benefits: To learn about benefits, please click: Carolinas HealthCare System: Year after year, CHS is cited by many of the top accrediting and ranking organizations in the industry. In , U.S. News & World Report named Carolinas HealthCare System s Levine Children s Hospital a Best Children s Hospital in six specialties: Cancer, Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. Jesse Helms Nursing Center was named one of the Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News & World Report in Carolinas HealthCare System was the first organization in North and South Carolina to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 certification in both its acute and ambulatory environments, signifying the highest levels of Electronic Medical Record adoption, and positioning Carolinas HealthCare System in the top 5% of healthcare organizations nationally. Carolinas HealthCare System is also one of only 19 health systems to be named Most Wired Advanced in 2016 by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. As part of its mission to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing for all, the System provides extensive support to medical research, operates top-notch undergraduate and graduate medical education programs and has launched many new outreach initiatives to boost population health and community health. CHS has been vigorous and determined in adapting to deep-seated changes in the way healthcare services are delivered and reimbursed. The System takes great measures to ensure its staff and equipment are adequate to meet the needs of everyone who comes through the doors of its facilities seeking assistance. CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 4
CHS s more than 900 care locations include: Academic medical centers; Hospitals; Freestanding emergency departments; Healthcare pavilions; Physician practices; Outpatient surgical centers; Laboratories; Rehabilitation centers; Home health agencies; Nursing homes; Hospice and palliative care; Pharmacies; Imaging centers. The System includes more than 7,600 licensed beds, employs nearly 60,000 people and accounts for almost 12 million patient interactions each year. Carolinas HealthCare System: Mission and Vision Mission: Just as CHS has evolved, so has the healthcare field. In the past decade, there have been substantial shifts in how care is paid for and delivered. This evolution underpins the importance of Carolinas HealthCare System s mission. In simple, straightforward and unmistakable language, Carolinas HealthCare System s mission is: To improve health, elevate hope and advance healing for all. Health has a much-expanded meaning in today s field. More and more, the organization will be asked to and be paid to keep its communities healthy. CHS is already doing this work today and expects to be doing more in the years to come. CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 5
Hope is in everything CHS does. No parent wants to walk his or her child into Levine Children s Hospital. No spouse wants to rush into the ED looking for a loved one. No one wants to hear they have cancer. But when they do, Carolinas HealthCare System is here to make sure they will get the very best care available anywhere. All teammates from the frontline nurses and doctors to all the support staff and everyone in between provide hope for everyone. Healing is what this organization seeks to provide. From its earliest days, CHS has been focused on providing excellent care, bolstered by a commitment to educate the next generation of caregivers and research the next generation of cures. From the most basic of services to the most complex, from physical ills to emotional pains and from the day-to-day practice of medicine to advanced treatments and clinical trials, healing is what Carolinas Healthcare System does. For all. The care provided under the Tree of Life is available to everyone. No matter the background of patients, no matter their appearance, no matter how or whether they can pay, CHS is their partner in sickness and in health. Health. Hope. Healing. For all. Five simple but powerful words. This is the promise of CHS s Tree of Life. Recently, the System expanded on its traditional mission by taking bold new steps to increase opportunities for care outside its walls. CHS has focused much more intently on preventive care, helping all people to stay healthier longer. In addition, the CHS mission has expanded to include greater emphasis on improving patient outcomes; improving the convenience of care; increasing access for people of all socio-economic levels; and proactively addressing social determinants of health. To address escalating demand for services, CHS has teamed up with a number of new health partners, including schools, government agencies and health departments, research and social service organizations and other healthcare providers. The System also has continued its already strong emphasis on data collection and analysis. It has rapidly adopted new telemedicine capabilities as well, including virtual visits for minor illnesses; online behavioral health consultations; virtual check-ups for chronically ill or recently discharged patients; and off-site monitoring for critical care patients. Patients can review their own medical records online and make same-day appointments while also accessing virtual interpreting services covering more than 200 languages. Learn more in the CHS annual report. CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 6
Vision and Destination A Strategy for the Future: As an organization, CHS must now reset the bar reach higher and strive for more as it embarks on the next 75+ years in the organization s history. CHS s goals for the future are embodied in its new vision: To be the first and best choice for care. The evolution of CHS s mission and vision are part of the organization s transformation and are a testament to the path forward as CHS charts its strategy for the future: Destination CHS s strategy encompasses three priority areas growth, value and affordability. By year-end 2020, CHS will: Achieve $300 million in margin growth to fund capital investments. This strategic growth ensures CHS s ability to sustain its mission and achieve its vision because it results in dollars needed to reinvest in capital investments and top talent. Improve 300,000 lives in sustainable, value-based models of care. The organization will not reach Destination 2020 through growth alone; CHS must also focus on providing value to its consumers by excelling at delivering high-value care in sustainable models. Realize $300 million in efficiencies by implementing best practices. Providing excellent, compassionate care is not enough. CHS must redesign its processes so that the cost of care may be reduced. Leadership Eugene A. Woods, MBA, MHA, FACHE President and Chief Executive Officer Gene Woods is the leader of one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the nation, with approximately 62,000 teammates, more than 900 care locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia and total enterprise net revenue of more than $8 billion. Mr. Woods has 24 years of healthcare leadership experience, having overseen CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 7

Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of Catholic Health Initiatives, CEO of Saint Joseph Health System and COO of the Washington Hospital Center. Mr. Woods is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association and was elected its Chairman, effective January He holds three degrees from The Pennsylvania State University: a Bachelor s degree in health planning and administration, a Master s degree in business administration and a Master s degree in health administration. He and his wife, Ramona, have two sons. Armando L. Chardiet, MSW President of Carolinas HealthCare Foundation Armando Chardiet is President of the Carolinas HealthCare Foundation. He is a recognized leader in the world of philanthropy and charitable giving. Prior to joining the System in March 2017, his roles included Chair of the Philanthropy Institute at Cleveland Clinic and Chief Advancement Officer and Assistant Vice Dean at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Earlier in his development career, he held positions at Red Cross, Brown University and American University. Mr. Chardiet is a graduate of Southern Connecticut University and holds a Master s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Location Charlotte, NC: Charlotte is a region that's equal parts old-fashioned southern charm and high-energy cosmopolitan bustle. Charlotte is a metro area on the rise, and has its own culture, culinary sophistication and unique feel that's making it a more enticing place for people from all over the world to settle down. This melting pot effect makes Charlotte an easy area to break into. CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 8
No longer living in the shadow of Atlanta, Georgia or Charleston, South Carolina, Charlotte has evolved significantly in the past decade and its transformation is only continuing, as evidenced by the numerous construction cranes across the skyline. The word "manageable" is frequently used to describe Charlotte. Its climate is more manageable than Florida's and its housing prices and living expenses are more manageable than New York City. The median home value in Charlotte is lower than the national average, though highly desirable areas, like Myers Park, can see listing prices surpassing $1 million. U.S. News & World Report analyzed 100 metro areas in the United States to find the best places to live based on quality of life and the job market in each metro area, as well as the value of living there and people's desire to live there. Charlotte ranks as #14 with an overall score of 7.1 out of 10. Charlotte s LYNX Light Rail system makes it easy to get around certain parts of the metro area and the bus and the newly-constructed trolley work well in others. Charlotte lacks one cohesive public transportation system that spans the whole region, but fortunately, traffic isn't yet what other major metro areas deal with, so relying heavily on a car isn't a real inconvenience. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is significant in size and is currently undergoing a renovation. Since it's a major hub for American Airlines, it's easy to get virtually anywhere. Amtrak and Greyhound also operate in Charlotte. The city is a region of small neighborhoods, each with a distinctive feel and energy. While there are plenty of housing options in the downtown area (actually referred to as Uptown), many residents choose to live in the neighborhoods surrounding the metro area's center. The North Davidson area (known as NoDa) features a vibrant arts community and is a favorite among 20- and 30- somethings. More than 30% of Charlotte households include children under the age of CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION PROSPECTUS 9
18. Parts of town that are family-friendly are highly desirable, as many residents either have families or will start them soon. The Ballantyne neighborhood is one such area. It's an upscale community near excellent schools. Charlotte encompasses 113 public elementary, middle and high schools, and has 128 private schools; 13 high schools are recognized on U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools rankings. Charlotte is also home to nine colleges and/or universities, one of which earned a place on U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges rankings. The emphasis on getting active is important in Charlotte, with 37 miles of greenway trails providing the perfect opportunity for biking, rollerblading or running. Culture is rich in Charlotte, with places like the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the Mint Museum and the Levine Museum of the New South offering plenty of opportunities to learn. Sports fans will feel right at home in Charlotte as the area features professional basketball and football teams. Because it's the headquarters for Bank of America and has major offices for Wells Fargo, Charlotte is sometimes perceived as just a banking town. While the financial industry is central to the region, it's not the only major employer. Others include Lowe's, which is headquartered in nearby Mooresville, and American Airlines puts many Charlotte residents to work. Home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Motor Speedway, motorsports are another major part of both the economy and the culture of the metro area. The unemployment rate in Charlotte is on par with the national average. The average household income in Charlotte is above average.
