3 Introduction from the Region 2 Parliamentarian Greetings Region II Executive Board Applicants, It has been my great pleasure to be your Regional Parliamentarian. Now it is your turn to become a distinct and polished leader of Region II! Please be mindful that the Regional Executive Board is a serious commitment. While your enthusiasm is welcomed, I urge you to prepare well for the challenges that are ahead of you, as a region of more than thirty chapters will cling to your leadership going forward. I know you all are more than capable of exceeding the expectations that are set for you. Applications for all positions are being accepted, provided they are completed before the explicit deadlines. Applications for elected positions are due March 2nd, Applications for appointed positions must be received by April 2nd, All members of the Society should be well versed in its business proceedings. However, as a potential leader, that standard applies even more. We encourage you to reach out to any current or past Region 2 Executive Board members or the Region 2 Advisors for more information. Being well informed will help you during this process, as well as give you direction to craft your goals and continue to lead Region II as The Model Region. 6 ELECTED REB PSITIN Regional Candidacy Eligibility In order to be eligible as a candidate for an ELECTED Regional position, you must: 1. Must be a Member in good standing. o The term Member is defined per National Constitution Article III, Section 3(a) o Good standing is determined by your student status academically at your college/university. 2. Have a minimum classification of junior undergraduate status or the equivalent for the elected term to run for Regional Chairperson. 3. Must be registered as a full-time student the academic semester prior to the beginning of the elected term (Spring 2018) and must maintain student status throughout the elected term. o Must be working towards a degree in engineering, engineering technology, or applied/physical science in an accredited program. All accepted programs are outlined in the NSBE Leadership Verification Policy. 4. Must complete all requirements outlined in this document by the designated deadlines. 5. Candidates who are currently co-op students must meet all of the above requirements. Note: T o give yourself the best opportunity to be elected, it is advised that you attend convention. However, if extenuating circumstances prohibit you from attending, your name will still appear in the Elections Handbook as well as on the ballot (once it has been approved by the Regional Parliamentarian). APPINTED REB PSITIN In order to be eligible as a candidate for an appointed Regional position you must: 1. Must be a Member or Professionals Member in good standing (as defined per National Constitution Article III, Section 3(a) & (d) o The term Member is defined per National Constitution Article III, Section 3(a) & (d) o Good standing is determined by your student status academically at your college/university. 8 Regional Candidate Certification Process This year, there is a two-phase process to apply for a Regional position. Phase 1 entails the submission of your Declaration of Intent for a desired Regional position. Phase 2 is the beginning of your training as a potential Regional Leader. If elected, there will be continued training to ensure you re equipped to be successful in your position. PHASE 1: Initial application will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and includes the following: 1. LEADERSHIP VERIFICATIN o Undergraduate Students An fficial Transcript and Register Enrollment Verification from your university indicating ALL of the following for the Spring 2018 semester: 1. Your status of full-time with your institution. 2. Your status of good standing with your institution. 3. The name of your college/school within your institution. 4. Your specific major under that college/school. 5. Class standing (e.g. junior, senior). 6. Expected graduation date. Note: If candidate expects to graduate before September 15, must show evidence of expected graduate school full-time enrollment. If your Institution provides online student enrollment verification via the National Student Clearinghouse, this is an acceptable form of enrollment verification. o Graduate Students An fficial Transcript and Register Enrollment Verification from your university indicating ALL of the following for the Spring 2018 semester: 1. Your status of full-time with your institution. 2. Your status of good standing with your institution. 3. The name of your college/school within your institution. 4. Your specific major under that college/school. 5. Expected graduation date. If your graduate degree is not in an engineering, engineering technology, applied/physical science field, you must also produce a copy of your undergraduate transcript or diploma National Society of Black Engineers r2parliamentarian@nsbe.org 8

9 indicating your previous degree and the name of the college/school within your institution. o Professionals (Non- Students) 1. Proof of degree; can be a transcript or copy of your diploma indicating: Name of your college or university. Your specific major within that college or university. 2. NE (1) RECMMENDATIN LETTER FRM AN ACTIVE NSBE MEMBER* The purpose of the recommendation is to provide perspective regarding your character and work ethic. You should select a NSBE member who can speak directly to your character, work ethic and potential as a NSBE leader. 3. CANDIDATE LEADERSHIP RESUME* The purpose of this resume is to review all prior experience in leadership that the candidate feels is relevant that qualifies them to run for the position. Information such as internships, skills, contact information and education are not requested and should be omitted. 4. LEADERSHIP ACTIN PLAN* Draft an action plan that will go over what the membership can expect from your term. Include all details on what you expect to accomplish in your term and how you will measure its effectiveness. This item will be read by the entire membership. Be prepared to answer questions concerning your plan. 5. SHRT ESSAY RESPNSES* You will be required to answer the following questions (150 words or less per question): 1. Region II is often called the Model Region. If elected/appointed, how do you intend to uphold Region II s standard as the Model Region? 2. What impact will your previous and current leadership skills have on Region II if elected/appointed to the REB? 6. CANDIDATE STATEMENT * The candidate statement is a synopsis of the views, plans and objectives that the candidate plans to enact if elected/appointed into said position. 10 *This information will be provided in the Regional Candidates Preview to the Regional Senate for elected positions. For appointed positions, this information will be provided to the REB-Elect. Basic demographic information will be provided in your profile so you do not need to mention it in your statement. PHASE 2: Certification Exam and Leadership Training After successfully completing Phase 1 of the application, you will be contacted by the Regional Parliamentarian about next steps in your appointment process. If appointed, your initial training begins! All candidates must complete the Regional Certification Exam. 1. Complete and pass the Regional Certification Exam online by March 9th, 2018 (a score of 50% must be achieved). You will receive access to this exam after your Phase 1 submission. The score will be included in the Regional Candidates' Preview. 2. If elected or appointed, must be available to participate in the Regional Transition Meeting (RTM) tentatively scheduled for May If elected or appointed, must be available to travel to and participate in the National Leadership Conference (NLC) tentatively scheduled for June Region II Executive Board Candidate Declaration of Intent The Region II Executive Board Candidate Declaration of Intent (DI) is a member s official statement of their intent to run/apply for a Regional position. The Declaration of Intent should be submitted to the Regional Parliamentarian via by National Society of Black Engineers r2parliamentarian@nsbe.org 10

12 Region II Executive Board Candidate Application The Region II Executive Board Candidate Application is a member s official application for their candidacy for a Regional position. The information in the Regional Candidate Application will be presented to the Regional Senate prior to Convention for elected positions. The application should be submitted on the website by 11:59pm on March 2nd, 2018 (Elected) or April 2nd, 2018 (Appointed) and includes all the items listed below : Regional Candidate Application Form - Submitted by applicant online Full Name (as it should appear on all material) University/College attending or Employer Name Major or degree Classification i.e. junior, senior, graduate student etc. Address & Phone Number Headshot Photo (350 X 350 pixels) Candidate Leadership Resume ne (1) Letter of Recommendation Verification Document(s) see Regional Certification Process section for details. 13 Research your desired position. Read the National Constitution, National Bylaws and Regional Bylaws for information. Try to communicate with both the person who is currently your regional counterpart (if applicable) as well as the person who is currently serving in the position for which you are applying and reach out to regional advisors for more advice*. * Regional Parliamentarian for advisors contact information. Submit the Region II Executive Board Declaration of Intent (DI) by February 23rd, 2018 for Elected positions and April 2nd, 2018 for Appointed Positions that is found on the regional website. *DIs must be submitted to the Regional Parliamentarian ( r2parliamentarian@nsbe.org ) by 11:59pm of respective deadline. Submit the Region II Executive Board Candidate Application by 11:59PM on March 2nd, 2018 for Elected positions and April 2nd, 2018 for Appointed Positions that is found on the regional website. *See Regional Candidate Certification process section for details on how to submit information. Take and pass your Regional Certification Exam (Elected) by March 9th, You will receive access to this Exam after you submit your Candidate Application by the required deadline. If elected/appointed, must be available to travel to and participate in the Regional Transition Meeting (RTM) in May 2018 (exact dates and location TBD). If elected/appointed, must be available to travel to and participate in the National Leadership Conference (NLC) June 2018 at (Location TBD).
