8 The IEC-APRC regularly attends the ACCSQ JSC EEE (Association of Southeast Asian Nations Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality Joint Sectoral Committee on Electrical and Electronic Equipment) meeting to share on the latest developments in the IEC Objectives of the ACCSQ JSC EEE: implement the Agreement on the ASEAN Harmonized EEE (Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulatory Regime Meetings: Yogyakarta, Indonesia, November 2012 Vientiane, Lao PDR, May Meeting with Affiliate in Lao PDR / Department of Standards and Metrology and its NEC 8

9 9 Important forum comprising 25 country members who are largely National Standards Bodies from the Asia-Pacific region Update on IEC activities, presentations on the IEC Young Professionals Programme and the IEC Affiliate Country Programme PASC recognized the IEC's efforts in providing capacity building to developing countries through the Affiliate Country Programme and its success in the Young Professionals Programme encouraging and facilitating young professionals' participation in standards development

10 IEC two representatives and the 12 members of the EASC met to: consider the issues of development work on technical regulations, standardization, metrology and conformity assessment consider the application of modern information technology during regional standardization exchange information and normative documents between international organizations and the national bodies of EASC members. Occasion for the IEC to reinforce its support to its six members (Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine) encourage four Affiliate Countries to participate more actively in the IEC Affiliate Country Programme (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan) reached out to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to invite them to join and benefit from its free Programme. 10

13 13 Meeting with Cambodia s NEC, 15 March 2013: Objective: train the newly established NEC, getting them more familiar with the work and the processes to develop international standards at the IEC Workshop organised under the UN Foundation s Energy Access Initiative and supported by the Asian Development Bank, March 2013: 80 participants from around the world, with about 60% out of Asia Objective: bring together practitioners, investors and experts to share and learn information on market development, innovation and financing opportunities relating to energy access to rural areas

14 14 Advancing Energy Access in South Asia Objective: opportunity to share best practices and ongoing work underway for entrepreneurs delivering decentralized energy services in India and in other South Asian countries where minigrid and off-grid clean energy solutions in particular are relevant to achieving universal energy access Interest from the participants on the work of the IEC and the IEC/TS on rural electrification Lack of awareness on the availability of the IEC publications and on discount available to qualified stakeholders Questions raised on the availability of IEC IS on mini-grid as entrepreneurs are looking into scaling up to mini-grid to provide electricity to a larger scale by bundling several towns under one mini-grid
