2 WheelPower - British Wheelchair Sport is pleased to launch a new small grants fund aimed at financially supporting more people with a physical impairment to take part in sport and physical activity. The funding has been made available through the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights (in association with National Tyre Distributors Association) We know that taking part in sport and physical activity enhances disabled people s quality of life, giving them confidence, improving their wellbeing and helping to connect them to other people. This fund has three main aims: Criteria for the Wheelwrights 2020 fund: 1. Make it easier for individuals to start getting active applying must be a resident in the UK it easier for individuals 2. Make achieve their sporting potential. applying must be a current patient at a spinal injury unit or have been discharged from a unit within the last five years The fund is available for all ages applying must include reference or referral details from a member of staff at the spinal unit The fund is targeted at grassroots sports participation rather than elite/performance level Round 1 of the fund is currently open and the closing date for applications is the 27th July Future funding rounds will be announced (TBC). Guidance We expect to get more applications than we can afford to fund so we will prioritise those applications that we believe will have the greatest impact for the individual.

3 We are flexible in the types of things that we can fund but some examples we would consider are: New equipment purchase Replacement or upgrade of existing equipment Manual sports wheelchairs Kit and clothing required to take part in activity Travel costs Fees to take part in activity or attend a competition Grants will not be awarded for items that do not address one of the three grant aims, powered wheelchairs or retrospective funding (meaning funding for items/activities that have already been paid for or taken place). How to apply If you wish to apply for a grant, please fill in the application form below. We will consider each application on its own merit, all decisions made are final and at the discretion of the Wheelwrights 2020 appeal committee. Once complete, please send the application form by to 2020@wheelpower.org.uk If you are printing out and sending a hard copy, just print the application form and return to WheelPower at the contact details below. Applications must be submitted by the 27th July All applications will be assessed after the closing date to ensure consistency and fairness in awarding funding. Funding will be provided to individuals by BACS electronic transfer. Successful individuals will be notified in September Conditions of grant The grant must be spent within 6 months of receiving the payment from us. A short case study including images must be completed and submitted within 6-months of receiving funding.
