With some important changes this year, now is the time for you to start thinking about whether you or someone you know, should apply for one of these important a. Applying is easier than you think and more details can be found on the BDA website.

3 ROSE SIMMONDS AWARD At one time the only BDA Award it is now the most prestigious Award given for a dietitian s original research publication between 2012 and A dietitian must be one of the acknowledged authors and the published work must be addressed to professional colleagues. First time published authors are encouraged to apply. While the applicant(s) does not need to be the sole or main author, it must be clear that the applicant contributed to the piece of work. Additionally, the entry must be an original research paper published in print, or online, in a peer reviewed journal during the calendar years The work can have been previously submitted for other external a and more than one entry can be submitted provided they meet the above criteria. However any published piece of work can only be submitted once and may not have been previously submitted. The Award is open to all full BDA members and the winner will receive APPLY

4 DAME BARBARA CLAYTON AWARD Dame Barbara made a significant contribution during the many years of her term of office as President and was a major force within medicine, paediatric care and in promoting and supporting dietetics. The award is open to individuals, teams or departments with staff who are BDA members where dietetic services or practice can demonstrate innovation and new ways of working within dietetic services. This may include the use of technology or changing practice to improve patient care or outcomes. It may also include demonstration of excellent through innovation. These examples are illustrative rather than prescriptive as new ways of working, professional excellence and innovation are wide ranging and varied. The award is 1,500 and is open to BDA members in any category. APPLY

5 ELIZABETH WASHINGTON AWARD Elizabeth Washington was one of the founder members of the BDA and served in a number of capacities for many years including Honorary Secretary, Honorary Chairman and Education Committee member. The 2015 Elizabeth Washington Award will be given to a BDA student member or new graduate s educational or research work which is within the disincline of nutrition and dietetics. The entrant must be an acknowledged author or project lead and the work addressed to other dietitians, professional colleagues, students, patients or the general public. It could cover nutrition education, health promotion, education of colleagues, standards, clinical guidelines or other educational topics. The award covers any piece of work produced by an eligible member who has created, published or implemented any educational or research based work in the previous year. (CONTINUED)

6 ELIZABETH WASHINGTON AWARD (CONTINUED) It could be an article/paper, published review paper in a journal, e-learning, a textbook, booklet, chapter in a book, website or a tool-kit. Articles printed as an abstract or in conference papers will be considered and this list is not exhaustive, although the work must have been published or available during the calendar year The Award is open to all BDA student members or BDA full members who have graduated between 1st January 2013 and 31st December The winner will receive 1,500. APPLY
