2 Nomination Form Technical Support Apprentice of the Year Award description This award has been developed to recognise the achievement of technical support apprentices, who have produced outstanding work, overcome barriers or have been a great ambassador for your company and/or apprenticeships. Guidance 1. Apprentices eligible for this award must have started at the AMRC Training Centre between September 2014 to August For help with telling your story info@amrctraining.co.uk or call Entries must be submitted electronically and within this form. Please complete the form, save it to your computer then to info@amrctraining.co.uk 4. Nominees should have completed their first year of training with the AMRC Training Centre in 2016/2017 or before. 5. This form contains two written sections. The employer/trainer supporting statement must be completed by the apprentice s employer or AMRC Training Centre trainer. The apprentice self-assessment section is to be completed by the nominated apprentice. 6. Please ensure all relevant questions are answered. All fields are compulsory. Incomplete entries will not be judged. 7. Please note the full list of rules is at the end of this entry form. Any entries not adhering to these rules will be eliminated. 8. Entries are open until midnight on Friday 23rd February The AMRC Training Centre has the right to extend the deadline. 9. The shortlisted nominees will be announced on Tuesday 6th March 2018 on the AMRC Training Centre website Shortlisted nominees will be invited to present to a panel on Monday 26th March The awards evening will be held on Friday 4th May 2018 at Firth Court, University of Sheffield.

12 The Rules 1. Entry to the AMRC Training Centre awards is free of charge. 2. Entries are treated in confidence. 3. Any additional supporting information must be submitted by together with this nomination form. 4. Please note the maximum word count for the apprentice self-assessment is 1500 words and the maximum word count for the employer/trainer is 2000 words. If your entry exceeds this word count it will be disqualified by the judges. 5. Entries will be judged in two stages. Firstly by a team of AMRC Training Centre staff who will shortlist the entries. Shortlisted nominees will then be invited to attend an independent and impartial judging panel made up of award sponsors and AMRC Training Centre staff. At this point candidates may be asked to present examples of their practical work. 6. By entry, nominated apprentices commit their attendance for the interview stage. 7. Entries should be in English, produced electronically and returned by . All entries must be checked for spelling and grammar. Failure to do so could affect the success of your entry. 8. Incomplete entries will not be judged. 9. All entries will be acknowledged on receipt. 10. Proof of sending an entry (by ) is not proof of receipt by AMRC Training Centre. 11. Winning entries may be publicised. Applicants are responsible for making appropriate arrangements to protect any intellectual property associated with their application. Entrants must be prepared to participate in post event publicity associated with the awards. 12. The AMRC Training Centre reserves the right to withdraw an award from any applicant supplying false/fraudulent/ inappropriate information within their entry. Judges reserve the right to audit any information supplied. 13. The closing date for entries is Friday 23rd February No entries will be accepted after this date. The AMRC Training Centre reserves the right to extend this deadline. 14. The judge s decision is final. 15. By registering and completing an entry for the awards you agree to these rules.

13 Tips for telling your Apprentice story Show your passion, speak from the heart and show off your technical understanding. The judges want to see a balance of your passion for engineering and manufacturing with your technical understanding of the subject, along with what you have done over and above your apprenticeship. Don t be shy about your achievements and ambitions. Shout from the rooftop this is a competition after all! How to get started. Get everything down on paper. To help you get started, go through each question and brainstorm/bullet point your ideas. Before you know it you will have the nuts and bolts of your entry. Then you can flesh out your ideas, elaborate on your points and give examples. Give lots of information. You have 1500 words in total so go for it! The more information you provide about your experiences, achievements and aspirations the more the judges can get to know about you. Think about your past, present and future. Think about where you have come from, how you got to where you are today, where you are at now and where you would like to be in the future. Your story is about your present, past and future. Answer the questions and stay focused. Answer all of the questions in full so that you can increase your chances of a higher score, but be careful not to waffle. Stay focused and be clear about your story. If you find yourself drifting return back to the question and refocus. Examples. Provide examples to back your experience. This will give the judges the evidence they need to assess you and your progress in the workplace and in the classroom. Include images and extracts of your work. You can embed up to 5 pieces of supporting evidence into your form to illustrate your story. You could add photos of your projects, you in your workplace, or, extracts from your reports and workbooks. Remember to give an explanation of what these are and how they link to your story. Note that your 5 pieces should not take up any more than 5 pages. Get feedback from your colleagues. Ask a colleague to read your entry and give feedback before you submit it for judging. They may see something important that you have missed! Enjoy It! This is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on where you have come on your career journey and evaluate where you would like to go.
