LADWP plans to exit coal by 2025 Environmental leadership AB32 39% of power supply today 2 years ahead of schedule Replacement power: Natural gas Renewables Solar, Wind, Hydro, Geothermal, Biogas Energy Efficiency (EE) Renewables and EE combined will serve at least 45% of power needs by

4 Next Century Power: Goals and Guiding Principles LADWP has adopted a 10% goal and 15% target of reduced energy use through EE by 2020 The 15% target may be adopted as a goal pending the outcome of the 2013 EE potential study - Underway and will be completed by early 2014 Guiding Principles for the design of the EE - Broad support: Mayor s and Council Offices Business community Environmental community Labor/workforce development allies LADWP Leadership 4 Many others

5 Next Century Power: Guiding Principles 1. LADWP will aggressively promote and achieve energy efficiency across all customer segments and energy end uses as a key part of LADWP s long-term, supply-side energy procurement strategy. 2. Residential customers will be assisted in achieving ultra-high levels of energy efficiency in and around their homes with proven economical potential for energy efficiency, demand response, and clean energy production routinely realized on a fully integrated, site-specific basis. 3. Commercial customers of all sizes will be assisted in achieving ultra-high levels of energy efficiency in and around their businesses with proven economical potential for energy efficiency, demand response and clean energy production routinely realized on a fully integrated, site-specific basis. 4. Industrial customers will be empowered to demonstrate leadership in proven, economical energy efficiency and resource management, which will positively impact their operations. 5

6 Next Century Power: Guiding Principles 5. Eligible low-income customers will receive tangible economic benefits of energy efficiency through the mass adoption of proven, economical low-income energy efficiency measures. 6. The future benefits of the widespread adoption of energy efficiency throughout LADWP territory will be leveraged to support the continued development of quality job opportunities for the local workforce including opportunities at LADWP to address future needs for critical skilled craft positions. 7. LADWP is committed to transparency in the administration of its overall energy efficiency portfolio, and will report semi-annually on progress towards saving energy, serving a broad range of customers throughout the city, as well as on the training and job creation that results from energy efficiency investments. The LADWP will provide performance measurement and verification of actual realized energy savings. 8. LADWP will collaborate with community organizations to provide outreach and education for its diverse customer base, including hard-to-reach customers such as small business, low-income customers and multi-unit dwellings. 6

8 Program Spotlight - Partnership with Southern California Gas Company (SCG) On 8/23/12 LADWP Board approved a Master Inter- Utility Agreement (MIUA) with SCG allowing cofunding of each other s programs One utility leads implementation with combined utility resources Allows electric, gas, and water programs and incentives to be combined into a one-stop shop for customers Customers can see four positive bill impacts (electric, gas, water, sewer) from combined programs Almost 50% of LADWP s EE Portfolio is invested in programs that are joint with SCG Broad support: SCG, LABC, NRDC, Mayor s Office, etc. 8
