4 ESA sees that technology innovation is a principal driver of not only space, but also the world economy in general. ESA TTPO To support this process, the ESA Technology Transfer ProgrammeOffice (TTPO) was established in 1990 as part of the ESA Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. The TTPO assists entrepreneurs across ESA Member States in creating successful innovative business (startups) developing products and services based on the downstream markets of the space systems applications and in the exploitation of space technologies in non-space sectors.

8 ESA in Italy ESRIN, known as the ESA Centre for Earth Observation, is one of the five ESA specialised centres situated in Europe. Located in Frascati, a small town 20 km south of Rome in Italy, ESRIN was established in 1966 and first began acquiring data from environmental satellites in the 1970s.

9 ESRIN BIC LAZIO COOPERATION ORIGINS Cooperation agreement in late 2005: scouting and selection of projects to support in ITech Spazio programme : 51 proposal evaluated for preincubation 16 selected and started 10 BPs realized 5 new start-ups launched In Local Government of Regione Lazio joined the first ESA Business Incubation Programme in Italy, through BIC Lazio

11 GALILEIAN PLUS : GI-SAR (Geospatial( Information extraction from SAR) The business idea behind GI-SAR project is to sale services based on the identification and extraction of GIS layers exploiting high resolution SAR data (mainly Cosmo SkyMed and Terrasar-X) and the innovative patented method. Monitoring mainly features and infrastructures in urban and rural areas. To implement this kind of services an integrated end-to-end processing platform composed by a SAR postprocessing engine integrated into a GIS environment has been developed SAR image Interferometric Land Use Map

12 BLUE THREAD: Space Compass The SPACE COMPASS device is based on satellite navigation and exploits the accuracy now reachable with EGNOS, for the determination of the boat orientation respect to geographic north (True Heading). 14 2013/2014: ESA BIC LAZIO OPEN CALL ESA/ESTEC Regione LAZIO Agenzia Spaziale Italiana- ASI Agreement between ASI and ESA in order to jointly promote the technologytransfer activitiesin Italy and supportingthe activities connected to the ESA BIC Programme in Italy. RegioneLazio: new launch of ESA BIC Lazio Programme for period, managed by BIC Lazio in the region.

15 Open Call ESA BIC Lazio 1/2 What Open call to support the launch and/or the start up of new businesses expolitingtechnology and know-how from space research in other industrial and commercial sectors of application. Who Addressed to aspiring entrepreneurs, young start-ups company; researchers, students encourgaed to create a spin-off company. How Much The funds provided by ESA and by ASI to support entrepreneurial projects are equal to 500k euro for the period Up to 50k euro to one project for the costs linked to the new product/service development and for IPR management.

16 Open Call ESA BIC Lazio 2/2 WHERE The winner shall be starting the new co in the ITechIncubator managed by BIC Lazio, in TiburtinoTechnology Park, for a period of two years. Incubation servicesare included as office accommodation, tutoring, specialized advise, investor readiness and fund raising HOW The Open Call is available on the web sites of BIC Lazio ( ESA ( edasi ( The proposals shall be submitted trough (esabic@biclazio.it) and through ordinary mail When The proposals can be submitted in every moment and four deadlines will be available in the year for the evaluation board (next one on 10th Feb2014)

20 MESSI HP -Monitoring Evolution with Soccer Satnav Innovation High Precision An innovative system for monitoring and tracking soccer playersduring trainings and competitions. Innovation and space related technologies are present into the shin guardthat includes a miniaturized GNSS receiver able to process RTCM differential correction. The MESSI prototype is currently using a GPS receiver.

21 WATERLAB SAT SYSTEM Biosensing Technologies The company has already developed a portable and user friendlylab, (EcoliInstrument)able to perform the microbiological analysesrequired by law on bathing marine area. Space relationship geo-positioning of the buoys exploitation of Earth Observation data from ESRIN correlation with biosensor data coming from the buoys
