1 N E W S R E L E A S E FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 26, 2010 News Media Contact: Communication and Media Relations, Gwinnett says thank you to more than 300 retirees The last day of school for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students also served as the last day for more than 300 professionals who have dedicated their careers to Gwinnett children. In all, 314 GCPS employees are retiring this year. Collectively, this year s retirees have contributed 8,112 years of their lives to education, and a total of 6,217 years to Gwinnett students. In fact, 39% (122) of this year s retirees have worked their entire careers in the classroom, office, cafeteria, school bus, or shop with GCPS. About 42% (137) of these GCPS veterans have more than 30 years of service in education, while 10 have more than 40 years in education. This year s retirees include four school principals; an assistant superintendent; several veteran central office leaders; a number of veteran support staff members; and many administrators, classroom teachers, counselors, and media specialists. This year s longest-serving retiree, a science teacher, has 46 years in education.
