Deno Ranked first on the team in total points (596), points per game (19.2) three pointers made (76), three-point percentage (40.0) steals (51) rebounds per game (6.9) and free throw percentage (88.4). Senior guard Darien Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) and forward Katie Wampler (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottsburg) also returns to lead a formidable lineup in Thompson averaged 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. The 5-foot-6 guard also led the Black and old with 49 total steals last season. Wampler also enters her final season with PNW, after earning All-CCAC Honorable Mention accolades last season. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 11.8 points per contest and 7.8 rebounds per game, and ranked just behind Thompson with 48 steals. Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Jessica Kiser (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) return for their junior seasons and will play a large role on the boards, with Michalski averaging 3.9 rpg and Kiser averaging 3.6 rpg last season. At the guard position, the Pride will be extremely deep, with Michaela Kikendall (Morristown, Ind./Morristown), Heather Burton (Valparaiso, Ind./Washington Township) and Kaylee Hardy (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) all returning for their sophomore seasons. KEY ADDITIONS The Pride welcome three incoming freshman to this year s squad, Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont), Skylar Ostrowski (Dekalb, Ind./Dekalb) and Bayley oodman (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central). Rhonehouse joins the Black and old after receiving all-conference, all-area and second-team all-state accolades at Fremont High School. Ostrowski joins the Pride after earing all-area and third-team all-state honors for DeKalb High School while Bayley oodman enters her freshman season after leading the Benton Central to a sectional championship and 24-3 record in her senior campaign. Ellery Mast led the olden Eagles with 13 points and nine rebounds while Jesse Sheridan, Lizzy Otten and Cass Vredevoogd each recorded 12 points in the win. SCOUTIN THE LANCERS race College has started the season 1-1, coming off a loss to IU South Bend on Oct. 26. Vironnica Drake leads all scorers averaging 17 points per contest while Kelsie Peterson and Hannah Adams each average 6 rebounds per game. 7 AME 1/2 - Cornerstone/race College TOM MEYESI HEAD COACH 10th SEASON AT PURDUE NORTHWEST Tom Megyesi enters his 10th season as the head coach of the Purdue Northwest women s basketball program beginning in He has continued to transform the women s basketball program thanks in part to his high-octane offensive attack. The Hall of Fame coach led the Peregrines to their fifthstraight 20-win season during the campaign, including their third trip in four years to the NAIA Div. II National Championship. Megyesi led the Peregrines to a 22-9 overall record with a 13-6 record in CCAC play in the season, with junior Cassidy Deno and sophomore Katie Wampler being named to the All-CCAC team. That wasn t the only honor for Deno, as she was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and received NAIA Third-Team AllAmerican honors. During the campaign, Purdue Calumet finished 21-8 overall and captured its second-straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference South Division Title with a 12-5 mark in league play. Purdue Calumet was ranked as high as No. 8 in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 National Poll, which marked the team s highest-ever ranking. 8 Under Megyesi, Purdue Calumet has become the one of the NAIA Division II s most prolific offenses, while having nine players join the 1,000-point club during his tenure. During that time, the Black and old have put their imprint on the school record book, setting both individual and team marks. His last four teams have found the top of the school s scoring list, including s record-breaking offense that put up 2,555 points on the year. During the campaign, the Peregrines ranked first in the CCAC with 75.9 percent shooting from the charity stipe while ranking third in rebound margin with a The Black and old also ranked 19th in the NAIA with 3.67 blocks per game and 43.1 total rebounds per game, while also ranking 24th in scoring offense (75.1) and defensive rebounds per contest (29.1) racked up 11 sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, a state runner-up finish in 1998 and a state championship in That resume proved worthy of perhaps Megyesi s greatest honor -- his inclusion in the 14th Women s Induction Class into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in the spring of The Okemos, Mich. native received numerous coaching honors during his tenure at Lake Central, highlighted by his Indiana Coaches of irl s Sports Association Coach-of-the- Year honors in 1994 and Megyesi graduated from Michigan State University in 1974 with a degree in physical education. He currently resides in Merrillville, Ind. with his wife of over 40 years, Jan. In , the Peregrines ranked in the NAIA s Top 10 in field goal percentage (45.6 percent), 3-point percentage (35.2 percent) and scoring offense, averaging a crisp 79.9 points per game. Purdue Calumet also broke the single-game scoring mark during the season in a league victory over high-scoring rival Olivet Nazarene. Purdue Calumet continued its progression under Megyesi in , reaching the 20- win plateau for the second-straight season. The Black and old went overall and 17-5 in the CCAC, climbing as high as No. 13 in the NAIA Div. II Coaches Poll during the season. The squad beat five nationally-ranked opponents, earning a national tournament berth for just the third time program history. The couple has three grown children, Mike of Valparaiso, Ind., Lori of Valparaiso, Ind. and Mark of Chesterton, Ind., as well as four grandchilden; Thomas, David, Oliver and rayson. The Peregrines had a breakout season in , tallying overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference action en route to the program s first trip to the CCAC Div. II Tournament championship game. The Black and old s.697 winning percentage was the program s highest in nine years, when the team went Purdue Calumet s success under Megyesi has been recognized by the rest of the conference and the NAIA, as he has seen 30 athletes receive All-CCAC recognition -- including 13 first-team selections -- two CCAC Freshman-of-the-Year accolades, 23 CCAC All- Academic selections, four NAIA Scholar-Athletes four NAIA All-Americans. The future of the Peregrines program grows brighter each season with Megyesi s continuous success on the recruiting front: seven of his recruits have gone on to score more than 1,000 points during their time in Hammond. Megyesi s teams have also excelled in the classroom, as the , and teams earned the NAIA s prestigous Scholar Team Award with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0. In his time at Purdue Calumet, 23 players have garnered CCAC All-Academic recognition, three have become NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athletes, and one has participated in the esteemed Red Cross/NAIA Leadership Program. Before Purdue Calumet, Megyesi spent 24 seasons ( ) at local Lake Central High School, guiding the girl s basketball program to a record in that span.
