2 Background: Contact Information: Formed on November 22, 1875, from parts of Benner and Harris Townships in Centre County, Pennsylvania, College Township is a Pennsylvania Township of the Second Class under the Home Rule Charter and Optional Plans Law (53 Pa. C.S to 3171). Originally governed by a Board of Supervisors, in 1976, voters deemed it most efficient to change to a Council-Manager form of government that would allow the separation of legislative and administrative responsibilities. In total, there are seven properties and districts located in College Township that are listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places which includes: the Centre Furnace Mansion, Felix Dale Stone House, General John Thompson House, Lemont Historic District, Oak Hall Historic District, Tudek Site, and Houserville Site. 4 Government: College Township is a Council- Manager form of government. The College Township Council is comprised of five members elected at-large from throughout the Township, and each member serves a four year term. Regular Council Meetings are typically scheduled for the first and third Thursdays of every month at 7:00 PM at the College Township Municipal Building location. In addition to the oversight of our elected officials, the Township depends upon citizen volunteers to provide support to the Council through participation in a variety of Authorities, Boards, and Commissions (ABCs). Citizen volunteers are appointed by Council to serve on the Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, College Township Water Authority, Parks & Recreation Committee, Industrial Development Authority, and Local Traffic Advisory Committee, to name a few. Citizen volunteers are also called upon to serve in a variety of regional capacities. Planning Commission meetings are typically scheduled for the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM. Geography: Located in Centre County, PA. According to the 2010 United State Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 18.6 square miles, all land. The township is bordered by Ferguson to the west, Patton to the northwest, Benner to the north, Harris to the south and east, and the borough of State College to the south and west.
