1 NATIONAL DEFENSE UNIVERSITY RECTORATE MUSEUM National Defense University Museum was established to enhance the institutional culture and sense of belonging as well as to eternalize the memories of alumni by handing over the history of the War Colleges Command, which is the highest level academic education and training institution of the Turkish Armed Forces, to the future generations. It was renamed as National Defense University Rectorate Museum in August Having been arranged in a thematic order, the museum displays the following items dated back to 1848; Former students records and diplomas, Personal registries of the faculty members and staff, Maps and sketches used during the World War I and the National War of Independence, Course books from different periods, Course materials, Staff officers insignias, Documentation on the cultural trips, The honor books signed by the heads of the foreign delegations, Photographs of all commandants assigned to the War Colleges The notes Atatürk kept during his training at the College and two wax figures representing him as staff captain and marshal are exhibited. There is also a Data Bank to contain the photographs of the graduates, personnel and the national and international delegations of the War Colleges Command, which has more than a 160-year background, as well as the photographs of domestic and international trips, site surveys and exercise.

4 Wax Figures of ATATÜRK The most important feature of these wax figures is that the face mask is the same one which had been taken after his death. These figures have been on display in our museum since The figure on the right belongs to the Captain Mustafa Kemal in his uniform of Staff Officer Captain of the period. The color claret red, is a hallmark of being a staff officer in the Turkish Armed Forces. The same color can be seen on the back of his collar, strips on his sleeves. The figure on the left belongs to Marshal ATATÜRK. The only medal ATATÜRK used on his marshal uniform was the Order of Distinction Medal which he received in Anafartalar Battle. Among his other medals and decorations, ATATÜRK also had two silver Order of Distinction Medals and he was given War of Independence Medal with a red (military) and green (member of parliament) ribbons by the Grand National Assembly in 1924 after the victory in the Turkish War of Independence. These medals and decorations are in the Museum of Atatürk's Mausoleum.

5 Diplomas of Imperial School of Army Engineering These diplomas dated 1883 and 1884 belongs to the Ottoman era. Marble Panel: The names of highest achieving graduates of the Staff College for the first ten years starting from 1910 were engraved on the marble panel. The modern Turkish translation of the panel is on the left.

6 Diplomas of Staff College dated 1907 and 1908 in Ottoman era. Diplomas and Qualification Certificates/Reports in Ottoman era. Diploma of General Muharrem Mazlum ISKORA, who was one of the former Chief of Staff of Turkish War Colleges and author of the book History of the Staff College, is also on display. Qualification Certificates was approved and sealed by 45 faculty members and testified that the officer had completed the first year of instruction at the Staff College and he was eligible to continue the second year. 7 Personal registries dated , 1921, and These registries includes the information of directors, instructors, students, and other staff.

8 Display for Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, the Student: On the upper part, there is a list of courses which Mustafa Kemal took in the Staff College and also his transcript showing his marks. Mustafa Kemal came 15th in his first year and 11th in his second year. He graduated fifth in his class in The copy of Mustafa Kemal s notes with his handwriting in the Staff College. The originals are in Military History and Strategic Studies Directorate in Ankara. Globe with old Turkish writing. A press clipping about the class of the Staff College in which Atatürk graduated was published in the newspaper İkdam. As an old tradition, newspapers used to publish articles on the Staff College graduates. 9 062 Gallipoli Map (Bloodstained): Known as Bloodstained Map due to the blood stains on it. It is one of the most valuable items in the museum. It was signed by Captain Ata, Major Hüseyin Avni and Colonel Mustafa Kemal in their own handwritings. Gallipoli Map as it is displayed in the museum. It was recovered from an Anzac lieutenant (named Peterson) who was captured dead in Gallipoli in Major Hüseyin Avni presented this map as humble present to the Commander of the 19th Division, Colonel Mustafa Kemal. Colonel Mustafa Kemal sent the map to the Commander of 3rd Corps Esat Paşa.

11 Sample rank badges and belts from Ottoman era and from Republic period, at the beginning of 20th century. Brocaded sword belt used by the late martyr Major Ferhat BESİ who was the uncle of (ret.) Major General Hüseyin TOPA, one of the former Chief of Staff of Turkish War Colleges. Calpack and wreathed epaulettes belonging to the late Major General Mustafa REMZİ (TARSUS). The wreathed epaulettes were wore by all officers as of One side has gold bronze and the other side is claret red. Brocaded Sword Belt of General İ.H.
