1 AD HOC GROUP OF THE STATES PARTIES TO THE CONVENTION ON THE PROHIBITION OF THE DEVELOPMENT, PRODUCTION AND BWC/AD HOC GROUP/37 STOCKPILING OF BACTERIOLOGICAL 3 October (BIOLOGICAL) AND TOXIN WEAPONS AND ON THEIR DESTRUCTION Original: ENGLISH Eighth session Geneva, 15 September - 3 October Note by the Secretariat costs of the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh an Twelfth sessions of the A Hoc Group of the States Parties to the BWC 1. The A Hoc Group of the States Parties to the BWC at its eighth session ecieter alia to hol the following sessions of three weeks in the course of 1998: 5 to 23 January, 22 June to 10 July an 28 September to 16 October an one session of two weeks. 2. This paper is submitte pursuant to the above-mentione ecision. It therefore provies estimate costs for conference-servicing an non conference-servicing activities (a breakown of these costs is provie the annex to the present ocument). 3. It shoul be note that the costs are estimate on the basis of past experience an anticipate. The actual costs will only be etermine after closure of the sessions when the exact is known. At that time, any ajustment in the contributions by the participants sharing the costs will be mae accoringly. 4. With regar to the financial arrangements, it will be recalle that in accorance with the practice followe on the occasion of previous isarmament conferences, the costs of such conferences, incluing those pertaining to preparatory meetings, were share among the States Parties participating in the conferences base on the Unite Nations scale of assessment pro- to take into account the number of States Parties participating in the conferences. States which were not States Parties to the Convention an which ha accepte the invitation to take part in the conferences share the costs to the extent of their respective s of assessment uner the Unite Nations scale. BWC/AD HOC GROUP/37 page 2 5. In accorance with past practice, assessment notices will be prepare base on the overall estimate costs an the
2 applicable cost-sharing formula. Since the above-mentione activities have no financial implication for the regular buget of the Organization, States Parties shoul procee with the payment of their share of the estimate costs as soon as assessment notices have been receive.
