This standard establishes the functional requirements for full scope nuclear power plant control room simulators that are subject to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulation for use in operator training and examination. The standard also establishes criteria for the scope of simulation, performance, and functional capabilities of nuclear power plant control room simulators.! This standard does not establish criteria for the use of simulators in operator training programs.
8 STATUS TO DATE! ANS x submitted to the American Nuclear Society on 01/16/14 to begin formal review process! ANS Large Light Water Reactors Consensus Committee (LLWRCC) completed review on 03/16/14! Public review period closed 09/10/14! ANS-3.5 Working Group met in January 2015 to review/ incorporate public/llwrcc comments.
9 ON-GOING EFFORT! ANS-3.5 Working Group met in May 2017 to review/incorporate additional LLWRCC comments.! A re-ballot was issued to the LLWRCC in June 2017; the proposed Standard obtained a consensus toward approval.! A re-consideration ballot will be issued to the LLWRCC in Spring 2018.
10 What s Different in the 201x Standard?! Addresses comments from the original 2009 Standard review effort! Addresses next generation simulators! Deleted/modified definitions; introduced discrepancy in lieu of noticeable difference, deviation and deficiency

Deleted Malfunction List in Section 3.1.4; a footnote references the "control manipulations/plant evolutions" list in the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 10CFR55.59 "Requalification" (c)(3)(i) where the malfunction list was originally derived.! 15 Of all U.S. simulation facilities (2017 data):! 13% conduct business to the 1985 Standard (down from 15% in 2016)! 3% conduct business to the 1998 Standard (down from 4% in 2016)! 84% conduct business to the 2009 Standard (up from 81% in 2016) As of today, there are 11 simulation facilities that conduct business to either the 1985 or 1998 Standard.

17 In 2018, Hatch, St. Lucie, Vogtle 1&2, and Davis-Besse have either transitioned, or are scheduled to transition its business to the ANS Standard. Forecasting to 2019, there will be seven simulation facilities that conduct business on an ANS-3.5 Standard other than ANS With the exceptions noted above, all other U.S. simulation facilities currently conduct business to the ANS Standard.
