1 Organized by Sponsored by 1 Background and Rationale The 2013 Global Citizens Programme, initiated by The Dragon Foundation and sponsored by Victor and William Fung Foundation Limited, will be the first time in collaboration with Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD), Stanford University. Led by Professor Tom Kosnik, a faculty member of Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University and a leading expert and teacher of Entrepreneurial Marketing and Technology Entrepreneurship, this customized programme is specially designed and developed by SCPD for our local undergraduate delegates in understanding the trends and impacts of social media. Delegates will participate in a 10-day study visit to Stanford University and Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA from June 9-19, Participants will receive a certificate from SCPD upon completion of the programme. The theme was chosen because of social media s popularity and current influence. Relatively low cost, speedy implementation and wide audience reach make social platforms an influential tool for communication, information flow and business marketing, social services and many other purposes. The programme will equip participants with knowledge of trends and innovative design for media strategy. 2 Learning objectives To understand the recent trends of social media in Bay Area, its influence on global communication, information flow, business marketing, etc through lectures and seminars by Stanford professors To equip with the thinking framework and process to stimulate innovation and project ideas aiming at solving problem for the need through interactive discussions & panelist sessions To conduct site visits to Silicon Valley and meet with co-founders of social media companies & new Start-ups To discuss the unique role of young people in the era of social media To formulate new project ideas that could contribute to the community through social / digital media 3 Theme Social Media in Action 4 Date and Venue 9-19 June 2013 (10 days and 9 nights in San Francisco, USA) 5 The Delegation 30 young student leaders will be selected to attend the programme in San Francisco.

2 6 Eligibility Full-time undergraduate Chinese students from any Hong Kong university are eligible for nomination by their universities. There is no restriction on field or year of study. Selection criteria will include academic achievement, exceptional talents or achievement in non-academic areas, and leadership qualities demonstrated by involvement in extra-curricular activities and community service. 7 Nomination procedures Universities should return a completed nomination form signed by the nominee with his/her essay in English and copies of documentary evidence wherever appropriate to: The Dragon Foundation 3/F, Suen Yue Building 48 Bonham strand West Sheung Wan, Hong Kong info@dragonfoundation.net There is no limitation on the no. of nominations made by each university. The nomination form, English essay and a passport photo (in JPEG or TIF format) must also be submitted in digital format on a CD-ROM. 8 Nomination Deadline 9 Fees 13 April 2013 Selected students will pay a nominal fee of HK$12,000 for the programme in USA. This fee includes a contribution towards airfares, local transport and travel/medical insurance, accommodation and other programme expenses as stated in the final itinerary. Selected participants must cover fees for visas and other personal expenses themselves. The Dragon Foundation was inaugurated in February 2000 with wide community support as a joint initiative of the Home Affairs Bureau and Home Affairs Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG). It is incorporated under the Companies Ordinance in Hong Kong and the Secretariat is administered by HKFYG. It is a non-profit, charitable organization with a long-term commitment to nurturing young people of Chinese ethnicity worldwide as tomorrow s leaders. The Victor and William Fung Foundation Limited was established in 2006 to commemorate the centenary of the Fung Group. It is funded personally by Dr. Victor K. Fung, Group Chairman and Dr. William K. Fung, Group Managing Director of the Fung Group. The mission of the Foundation is to promote (i) leadership development principally through university students exchange programs, and (ii) thought leadership principally through think tanks and education institutes.
