5 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) It is important that all scholarship applicants complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to assist in matching you with additional sources of financial aid. The application can be completed as soon as January 1st of the year you plan to attend college. You can always go back to your FAFSA to check the status, make corrections and other changes should uncontrolled circumstances arise. After submitting your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) which summarizes the information you reported. Our scholarships require a copy of your SAR to be included with your application. Applications missing the SAR or other supporting documents will not be considered, so please plan ahead! 6 About The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) is a community foundation, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Founded in 1920, TFEC primarily serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry and Northern York counties. Each of them has different criteria; for example, one may be for those students majoring in nursing, one may be for students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and another one may be for students going to a specific college, university or trade school. s of $1,000 or more will be paid in two installments: one-half in the fall semester; and one-half in the spring. 8 About the The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Program enhances educational opportunities for eligible senior high school students who reside in Pennsylvania. The program is privately funded by individual and corporate donors; no tax or other public funds are used. The program is administered by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The program provides four year scholarships to two high school seniors per year. Each years award varies and is equal to one semester of tuition at the State System of Higher Education. The student may use the scholarship to attend any postsecondary eligible educational institution. Eligible educational institutions include all colleges, universities, and career schools in Pennsylvania. Half of each annual award will be paid in the fall semester, and half in the spring semester. PHEAA s PATH Program recipients are eligible to have their awards matched up to a dollar-for-dollar basis by the PATH Program. PHEAA may grant matching funds to scholarship recipients who are enrolled in an approved Pennsylvania college or career school, who are a state grant recipient, and who demonstrate financial need. This non-cash tuition discount is available for each scholarship year. 9 Application Hints Your online application must be filled out COMPLETELY or you will not be able to submit the application. If you are unable to complete your application in one sitting, you will be able to save your application and log back in to complete it or make any changes or updates prior to submitting. Please be sure to review the scholarship summary page and have ALL required supplemental materials that must be attached to your application prepared and ready to be attached prior to accessing the online application. Please be sure that you attach your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) in its entirety. The report must include the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). Please be aware that the SAR is not the same as the Summary Report. There are required supplemental materials that must be mailed. You are encouraged to mail these materials in ONE envelope. Please be sure to label the envelope/materials with your name and the name of the scholarship. For scholarships requiring letters of recommendation, you must make sure that your name and the name of the scholarship you are applying for are on the letter. Request your references early. Make sure that you ask your reference if you can use them for several scholarships, if you are applying for more than one. Request one original for each scholarship that you are applying for. Remember for all materials that must be mailed, deadline dates are in office dates, NOT postmark dates. TFEC s hours are 8:00am 4:30pm for drop-off of scholarship materials. Most scholarship recipients will be notified of their award at their high school senior awards night. You must confirm your acceptance of your award immediately after you receive it, using the Acceptance Form included in your award packet. Your scholarship will not be processed until the acceptance form is returned to TFEC. We ask that Recipients thank their donors for the generosity of the scholarship.
