2 Kerstin Kleese van Dam In October 2009, Kerstin joined PNNL as senior research scientist and is currently an Associate Division Director in CSMD and Technical Lead of the Scientific Data Management Group at PNNL. She is personally involved in a range of data management research and development projects spanning numerous science domains. Prior to joining PNNL, Kerstin was the Director of Computing for the Biomedical Sciences Faculty at University College London. Before that, Kerstin worked at STFC - Daresbury Laboratory, United Kingdom from where she led and participated in a wide range of national and international projects (e.g. NERC DataGrid, e-minerals, Integrative Biology, e-materials, MaterialsGrid, UK Digital Curation Centre, Ontogenisis, VLAB, EcoGrid, ESTEDI).

3 Bill Howe University of Washington Dr. Howe holds a Senior Scientist position in the UW escience Institute and an Affiliate Assistant Professor appointment in Computer Science & Engineering, where he studies scientific databases, data-intensive scalable computing, visualization, and citizen science. Howe has received two Jim Gray Seed Grant awards from Microsoft Research for work on managing environmental data, and has had two papers selected to appear in VLDB Journal's "Best of Conference" issue (2004 and 2010) for work in data-intensive computing for science. Howe serves on the program and organizing committees for a number of conferences in the area of scientific data management, and serves on the the Science Advisory Board of the SciDB project, a project to build a new database system expressly for science. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Portland State University, where he studied under Prof. David Maier.

4 Tony Hey As corporate vice president of Microsoft Research Connections, Tony Hey is responsible for worldwide external research collaboration in Microsoft Research. Before joining Microsoft, Hey served as director of the U.K.'s e-science Initiative, managing the government's efforts to provide scientists and researchers with access to key computing technologies. Before leading this initiative, Hey was head of the school of electronics and computer science, and dean of engineering and applied science at the University of Southampton, where he helped build his department into one of the leading computer science research institutions in the U.K. Hey is a fellow of the U.K.'s Royal Academy of Engineering and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in the U.S. He is also a fellow of the British Computer Society, the Institute of Engineering and Technology, and the Institute of Physics.

5 Stefan Heinzel Stefan Heinzel, computer scientist with a diploma from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), entered the computer science department of the Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) in 1979 for the development of operating systems.1984 he changed to the Garching Computing Centre (RZG) of the Max Planck Society for the development of front/end systems for HPC systems he became director of RZG. Since 2006 he additionally became technical director of the German High Performance Computing Centre for Climate- and Earth System Research. Since 2008 he is coordinating the Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications (DEISA2) project in the European FP7. Since 2001 he is member of the National Council for HPC system of the German Council of Science and Humanities.
