1 March 2011 Dear Students, Parents, and Guidance Counselors: Over the past two years a group of college access service providers, educators and business leaders has been working to develop tools that will better help area high school students pursue and complete a post-secondary degree through an effort called the St. Louis Regional College Access Pipeline Project (CAP). One of the first products of that work is this catalog of available scholarships. We know that financial aid is a barrier many students face when considering education beyond high school; we hope this helps you identify resources to help you continue your education. This catalog was made possible through the support of Wells Fargo Advisors, Deaconess Foundation, Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation and the Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis. About the Catalog This list was created over the past two years and updated January - March Please pay attention to deadlines as you read this as some application deadlines may have passed. This list only includes scholarships that are privately funded and open to applications. It does not include publicly funded grants and scholarships like Access Missouri and the federal Pell grant; we encourage you to look into those on your own. Two essential steps that every student should take are completing and filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and talking with the financial aid office at your college or university to determine what public and school-based aid might be available to you. Each scholarship in the guide has specific criteria for applicants: who is eligible, deadlines, etc. Please review this carefully before submitting your information. While it may be tempting to apply to as many scholarships as possible, we strongly ask that you only send your information to scholarships for which you are likely eligible. Many of these scholarships have very few people to help read through all of the applications; bombarding them with applications that don t fit the criteria slows the decision-making process and could ultimately lead the funders to reconsider whether they offer a scholarship program. The best thing for you and for all of the students seeking financial aid is to be very selective and targeted in choosing the scholarships that may best fit you and applying only to those. Every attempt has been made to make this as complete a list of privately available scholarships as possible but no doubt we have missed some. If you know of a scholarship we have missed, please let us know by ing us at projectmanager.capstl@gmail.com so we can add it to the list. How to use the Catalog The catalog is available online at We are providing the catalog in two forms: as a spreadsheet on Google docs so you can sort by criteria like deadline, as well as a PDF which lists scholarships alphabetically. While the PDF version might be easier to read, it does print out to more than 50 pages so you may find it easier to download it and read on your computer. We will make periodic updates which will automatically appear on the version available on line. 1
