1 Scholarship Scoop NAFEPA Scholarship Program National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators Purpose The purpose of the scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for qualifying seniors or high school graduates who attending their first year of college. Two scholarships are for students pursuing a degree in Education. The other two scholarship winners can pursue a degree in Education or any other major. Eligibility Candidates for the NAFEPA scholarship will be selected by the NAFEPA affiliate state organization or representative. Each state may select one candidate for the national scholarship program. States with more than 100 members may nominate two candidates for each award. Selection Process Scholarship winners will be selected based upon the following criteria of equal point value: High school or college transcript from the fall of 2016 (20 points) Extracurricular activities, leadership, service within the community, non-profit or church(20 points) Three letters of recommendation, including letter from the principal (20 points) Financial need (20 points) A 300 word essay (max, please) outlining his/her leadership activities and future goals. (20 points) Scholarship Payment The full amount of each scholarship will be made payable to the institution of choice. It is the responsibility of each scholarship recipient to forward enrollment verification and tuition invoice from the institution to the scholarship chairperson. Please note that the scholarship is paid directly to the institution. Application Process Complete the application and attach all required information. 3 Scholarship Scoop SCATA Scholarship Announcement South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators The South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators will award eighteen scholarships for deserving students. Qualifying seniors have the opportunity to compete for a $2,000 (first place) or one of two $1,000 (second and third places) scholarships. Three scholarships will be awarded in each of the six regions. Application Dates * High Schools should send completed applications to the Title I district coordinators no later than Friday, January 6, (District coordinators have the discretion to set an earlier deadline.) * The district coordinator will select one application and forward it to the SCATA regional representative on or before Friday, January 20, * Recipients and schools will be notified of scholarship awards on or before Friday, February 24, Winners will be recognized in March of Scholarship Qualifications 1. Applicant must be eligible for free or reduced priced lunch based on current USDA eligibility criteria. School official should verify this eligibility with Food Services representatives at each district. 2. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited high school in South Carolina and meet all requirements for obtaining a South Carolina high school diploma by the end of the current school year. 3. Applicant must be able to meet the entrance requirements of an approved post-secondary institution. 4. Applicant must submit a completed application packet by the required date. This packet must contain: * A completed SCATA Scholarship application with all signatures; * A one-page personal typed narrative from the applicant explaining why he/she is applying for this scholarship (awards, interests and academic aspirations should be included in the narrative); * A letter of recommendation from a teacher of the applicant (on school letterhead); * A letter of recommendation from the principal (on school letterhead); * A letter from a school administrator (on school letterhead) indicating the lunch status of the student; and * A copy of the high school transcript. SCATA Scholarship Application Process

4 Qualifying students from South Carolina s high schools may submit applications. It is the applicant s responsibility to complete all information and submit the application by the required date. The school will forward application packets that have been completed to the district s Title I coordinator. (As determined by the District Title I coordinator, districts that have more than one high school may decide to accept only one application per school.) The district s Title I coordinator will select one application to send to the regional representative. The scholarship committee, chaired by the regional representative, will review all applications and select four (4) nominees that best meet the scholarship award criteria. A Review Worksheet will be used by the committee to rate applications. The four nominees from each region will be ranked by priority. The number one (1) ranked nominee from each region will be designated as the $2,000 scholarship recipient. The number two (2) and the number three (3) ranked nominees will be designated as the $1,000 scholarship recipients. In the event the number one (1) designated recipient fails to qualify for any reason, the second place winner will receive the $2,000 scholarship. The same procedure will apply to the third and fourth place winners, should higher ranked winners fail to qualify. The prioritized selections made by the Regional Scholarship Committee should be forwarded to the President-Elect of SCATA. The President-Elect of SCATA will notify scholarship winners of their status. All scholarship recipients and their guests will be invited via letter to the SCATA Spring Conference Scholarship Banquet which will be held in Columbia, SC in March 2017 (Date - TBA). SCATA Scholarship Payment The full amount of the scholarship will be made payable to an institution of the student s choice when the Secretary-Treasurer of SCATA has received official verification of the student s enrollment in that institution. Please note that this scholarship is paid directly to the institution only after a letter is received from the institution verifying the student is enrolled. (The Secretary-Treasurer s contact information will be provided for recipients in the invitational letter to the March 2017 Scholarship Banquet.) SEE YOUR COUNSELOR FOR APPLICATION!

5 Scholarship Scoop The Hampton Wildlife Fund is pleased to offer 4 scholarships to SC students: The Harry Hampton, Wallace F Pate, David M Cline, and James O Thomason Scholarships. Applications are available online at The Harry Hampton and Wallace Pate are combined on one application; The other two scholarships have separate applications. See criteria and info for each scholarship below. All applications must be postmarked January 31, 2017 to be considered. Harry Hampton: students interested in the natural resources disciplines of wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine or environmental science. four years, $5000 per year. Wallace F Pate: students interested in the natural resources disciplines of wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine or environmental science. one year, $2500. *natural resources students may apply for both scholarships on one application but are eligbile to be awarded only one. Agriculture, general bio, pre-med and vet science are not eligible curricula for these scholarships. David M Cline: students interested in law enforcement, criminal justice and forensic science. One year, $2000 James O Thomason: Students interested in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communimcations. This scholarship requires submission of a topical essay. Four years, $2000 per year.

Lyceum Scholars Program at Clemson University: -Lyceum scholars study the moral, political and economic foundations of a free society using a Great Books Program. this unique curriculum develops students' intellectual faculties, ignites their passion for knowledge, and promotes the development of character traits necessary to succeed in life.
