3 Enrollment & Registration District Enhancements for Students in Foster Care The District is required to identify students who are under the supervision of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the full case management of an Our Kids, Inc. provider agency. This is indicated by a DCF flag in the Student Information Screen in the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS). This process is centralized and the DCF flag is entered by Juvenile Justice Support Office (JJSO) personnel from School Operations.

5 Enrollment & Registration District Enhancements for Students in Foster Care (continued) Promoting School Stability All dependent students should remain at their school of origin regardless of their out of boundary home placement. Our office grants out of area transfers and explores transportation options in collaboration with the full case management agency. School-sites and regional center personnel are electronically blocked from withdrawing or transferring a dependent student. Only JJSO personnel may approve a transfer by conducting an educational review with agency personnel and consulting with school-site staff to determine best interest school placements. The JJSO will provide written transfer or out of area transfer approval, and withdraw or enter the appropriate out of area transfer codes in ISIS.

8 CRITICAL INCIDENT NOTIFICATION & DISTRICT CRITICAL INCIDENT RESPONSE TEAM (DCIRT)
9 What type of Critical Incidents should be reported to (305) 995-COPS?
10 Examples of Commonly Reported Critical Incidents Any Critical Incident Requiring Immediate Resources From The District o Serious illness or injury, death, communicable disease of student(s) or staff member(s) on or off-campus o A serious incident occurring on campus involving a nonschool-site employee or visitor o Any incident that could potentially draw media attention ( Also Contact Media Relations) o Missing children ( Contact 995-COPS Upon Recovery)
11 Examples of Commonly Reported Critical Incidents o Power outage or major utility interruption (not phones). Once restored, 995-COPS must be contacted. o o o Total or partial air conditioning failure o Significant impact on student stations o Large common stations Once restored, 995-COPS must be contacted. Any incident resulting in a lockdown or evacuation. Administrator should monitor DECON Radio. All radio transmissions will occur on the DECON Frequency # 1 SB- OPS Shelter Burglary, vandalism or fire that disrupts the learning environment
12 Summary of Communication Protocol Calls for critical incidents are placed to (305) 995-COPS & Regional Center ONLY. This does not take the place of calling 911. After school care programs must also follow these procedures. Critical incident Notification should NOT be made via DECON Critical incidents should NOT be reported to School Operations, The Crisis Team or Students Services, Transportation Maintenance, etc ( Media Relations Should also be contacted for incidents that may draw media attention)
13 Summary of Communication Protocol The appropriate responders will contact the principal directly after the call is made (305) 995-COPS School Police DCIRT Team Leader Public Information Office Student Services Other appropriate responders The principal should monitor the DECON radio during and after a lockdown or evacuation. DECON must be accessible to assistant principal(s) & Adult Education personnel (if applicable)

17 Commonly Asked Questions (cont.) Can I hold staff after work hours during an critical incident? YES Authorization for holding school personnel will come directly from School Operations. Do I call any District Office for resources during a critical incident? NO All request for District Resources are coordinated through DCIRT Team Leader(s) Do I still report critical incidents through the Automated Incident Reporting System (AIRS)? YES Communicable Disease Reports must still be faxed to the designated departments
18 DECON Radio Protocol All radios should be set on Channel # 2 SB-OPS Shelter Press the transmit button and wait until you hear a beep before speaking Identify yourself at the beginning of the transmission, i.e., this is SB0041 Air Base Elem. Radio transmissions must be short and to the point At the end of each transmission, Say Over Please remember everyone with a DECON radio can hear your transmission

20 Students Transported to the Hospital An administrator MUST Accompany an injured students to the hospital if the parents are not present when the student leaves the school COPS should be contacted with updates on the student condition. A staff member must respond to the hospital if the student is seriously injured, regardless if the parent is at the hospital COPS should be contacted with updates on the student condition.
21 Access To Schools After Hours If access to the school is needed after hours due to an intrusion, intrusion alarm or fire alarm activation School Police Communications will attempt to contact the following school personnel. Once contact is made, someone from the school MUST respond. If contact is not made a DCIRT alert will be sent to all Superintendent s Cabinet Members and DCIRT members indicating that school personnel is non responsive. 1. Principal 2.
