2 Tis' the season of giving Tis' the season of giving and our team members certainly outdid themselves. What a wonderful display of generosity and kindness by our South Lake Hospital family! Thank you one and all for always making a positive difference in our patient's lives and the lives of our community members. Happy Holidays! New CBL A new CBL has been assigned to all nurses, it is very brief and should only take a few minutes to complete. It has information regarding verification of physician privileges and orders to titrate medications. All hospital staff have been assigned a brief CBL related to an active shooter situation and how to determine when to run, hide or fight. Due date will be in 3 weeks for both CBLs. Page 2

6 Telemetry Cleaning Processes - Biomed Biomed cannot take any equipment that is not cleaned or decontaminated from the department. Equipment should be cleaned or decontaminated before Biomed can pick it up. Specifically the Telemetry. Proper maintenance includes clinical staff keeping equipment clean in and around the battery pack as well. Just wiping the outside of the unit doesn t cover disinfection. How to Contact the Hospitalist Using Perfect Serve rom the Perfect Serve F Directory Screen there are 3 directories Practitioners Care Team Groups Practitioners elect Practitioner find the S Managing MD for the day on this list then send message directly to that MD. 7 From your staffing and payroll coordinator: P lease remember when coming in for any educational classes or meetings, you MUST clock in and out in order to be paid! If your class or meeting is immediately BEFORE your shift: Clock in before the class/meeting and DO NOT float your time to Education or Meeting. (I will do that when I receive the sign in sheet from your manager/education). You will clock out at the end of your shift as normal. If your class or meeting is immediately AFTER your shift: Clock out at the end of your shift, then clock back in AND float your time to education or meeting. Then you will clock out after your class or meeting. You DO NOT need to float your time when clocking out the last time, you only need to float your time once. Your badge is part of your uniform and you should be wearing it every time you are on campus for anything work related. Looking to become an interpreter? To start the process you will be assigned two computer based learning modules. One will introduce you to the world of medical terminology and the other will outline the expectations of being an interpreter. Upon completion of both modules please set up an appointment to complete a written test and an oral interpretation exam. To set up this appointment please contact Rosemary Crain by calling ext or sending an to rosemary.crain@orlandohealth.com. Page 7

8 W hat is Baby-Friendly? The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global health initiative program launched in 1991, by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF), and that recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding, and support new mother and infant bonding. South Lake Hospital s Center for Women s Health has begun the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative journey. It is necessary that all South Lake Hospital team members understand the significance of this desired designation, and will offer support and understanding for new mothers, even if not working in the Labor & Delivery unit, but from any hospital department. More info to follow:) Pressure Injury Interventions are most effective when started as soon as the patient is known to be at risk, this includes putting a patient on a specialty mattress in the ED. Once you complete your patient s Braden Score and deem the patient to be at risk for skin breakdown, start interventions IMMEDIATELY. WOUND CARE CORNER Time is crucial. A few hours can make a significant difference when it comes to preventing a pressure injury. Don t wait for Wound Management to recommend a positioning wedge, waffle boots, Barrier Cream, protective Mepilex sacral border dressing and a specialty bed/mattress. These items have been made accessible to you for a reason. Use the Braden Score and your knowledge to put interventions into place ASAP. Remember a specialty mattress/bed needs a physician s order, then call UHS to notify them which bed/mattress you need delivered to the room.
