2 ABOUT TRUST Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust, Punjabi Bagh New Delhi registered under the Society Registration Act XXI 1860 & established in 1980 by some prominent handful of donors of the Society with the main objective to give free medical aid to every deserving human being irrespective of caste, creed and religion. It also aims to set up, manage and organize Hospitals, Dispensaries, Charitable Institutions and Medical Institutions and to provide training for Doctors, Nurses and Para-Medical staff for achieving objectives of the Trust. The trust is running Maharaja Agrasen Hospital at Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi since 1991 (ISO 9001:2008, NABL, NABH & JCI Accreditated). 8 ABOUT THE HOSPITAL Maharaja Agrasen Hospital was established on under the auspices of Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust, Punjabi Bagh New Delhi. Hospital was started with a humble beginning of 65 beds and within a short span of 26 years this hospital has reached to the stage of 400 bedded multisuper specialty catering to the population of not only Delhi but also from the adjoining states. The cornerstones of Maharaja Agrasen Hospital (MAH) are its unstinting focus on clinical excellence, affordable costs, technology and forward-looking research & academics. MAH is one of the first few charitable hospitals; those are run by the trust in the world to get Joint Commission International (JCI) and also the first Non- Medical College to get UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, Haifa. There is another 80 bedded multispecialty hospital at Dwarka, New Delhi, which is also serving the society under the auspice of the same charitable trust. Soon the Maharaja Agrasen Medical University will be opened in Haryana state at Bahadurgarh to serve over thousands of people. Hospital runs a free OPD offering specialist and super specialist consultation to about 800 to 900 patients daily. The Casualty of the hospital is extending free consultation to patient in addition to minor procedures and first aid medicines. More than 10 percent beds are reserved for poor patients (EWS), even before government enforcement came into effect, where treatment including consultation, medicines, surgical implants are completely free. Diet is also provided free to these patients. Hospital runs 2 Mobile Dispensaries providing the medical care and medicines at patients doorstep in JJ Clusters to about 400 to 500 patients daily. Hospital has provided treatment to more than 400 million people (OPD, IPD & Mobile Dispensary) since its inception. The main purpose of the academics wing of the hospital is to empower the women and the youth of surrounding area with quality education.
9 Goals and Objectives of Academic Department of the Hospital Develop competent nursing graduates who uphold values of truth, integrity, peace, democracy and human rights. Promote and partake in academic programmes that involve personality development, social involvement and are responsive to national and international health care standards. Generate significant research programmes which contribute to an evidence-based, scientific and technologically advanced nursing education and practice. Enhance accessibility to better educational opportunities for deserving and qualified students through establishment of local and international academic linkages.
10 GENERAL DUTY ASSISTANT PROGRAMME The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is to: The General Duty Assistant or GDA program is designed to provide quality care to patients admitted in nursing homes and hospitals. The General Duty Assistant (GDA) course trains students to work as nursing aides in hospitals, nursing homes and home care scenarios. As part of the curriculum, students learn how to provide basic nursing care and manage ill patients. Upon successful completion of the General Duty Assistant course, students become qualified to take the Healthcare Sector Skills Council (HSSC) competency exam. After clearing this exam, students become certified General Duty Assistants and thus work in an efficient and knowledgeable manner. A GDA works in close collaboration with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers. The nursing assistant course lays special emphasis on inculcating empathetic and ethical behaviour beyond patient care. Some of the key responsibilities of the General Duty Assistant are to provide daily care, look after the patient s comfort, safety and health needs. Course Description: The programme is of 1 year including classroom learning, practical sessions and On-the-job training. The examination will be held annually. The students will receive adequate clinical exposure under the guidance of faculty in various clinical settings. Career Growth: General Duty Assistants have a plethora of career options to choose from and can progress by taking more responsibilities. Certified students start their careers as General Duty Assistants after which they can take up the profession of Nursing Assistants. After gaining some experience as Nursing Assistants, they can take up the job role of Supervisors, Floor Supervisors, and finally Managers, which are deemed as more independent job roles. A General Duty Assistant can
11 grow through promotions, experience and education to the profile of a Clinical Nurse Supervisor and finally achieve the position of a Head Nurse. Potential employers include large hospitals, private clinics and medical research institutes. As far as the demand of healthcare professionals is concerned, technicians and the paramedics account for over 75% of the increasing human resource recruitment. This clearly shows that there is sufficient scope of growth in the career of a General Duty Assistant. When we talk about the career oriented nursing programs, General Duty Assistant is one career you cannot resist. Annual Intake: 30 Seats Eligibility The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought. Minimum education: 10+2 class passed with Science (PCB) & English Core/English Elective with aggregate of 45% marks from recognized board under AISSCE/ CBSE / ICSE/ SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board. Preference will be given to B. Sc students. Students appearing in 10+2 examination in Science conducted by National Institute of Open School with 45% marks. Student shall be medically fit. Student shall be admitted once in a year.
12 HOW TO APPLY? Please collect the application form the hospital or download the application form from the hospital website The duly filled application form should reach the hospital HR Department latest by 25 th September, The photocopies of the documents should be sent along with the application form. SELECTION PROCESS The selection will be based on the basis of academic performance and interview. Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview. Documents to be submitted at the time of admission: 1. Four copies of recent passport size photographs th and 10+2 mark sheets. 3. Conduct/character certificate. 4. An undertaking from parent / guardian promising to meet all financial obligations of the students during the course period. 5. Aadhar Card FEE Application and Prospectus Fees is Rs 100 to be paid at the time of interview. Course fee is Rs 10,000 per semester (Six month).
13 FACILITIES AVAILABLE The college offers unmatched training in nursing education through its highly qualified and experienced faculty, excellent infrastructure and clinical facilities. We have a dedicated team of faculty, striving hard to provide the students with the latest knowledge and skill that would help them to stand out in this fiercely competitive world. Clinical Facilities We provide excellent clinical experiences for our students. The students acquire enormous clinical experience from our 400 bedded parent hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital which has all the clinical specialities including organ transplantation, cardio thoracic surgeries, dialysis and all advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities.
14 RULES & REGULATIONS All the students shall comply with Rules and Regulations of the Institute in force. ACADEMIC Students need to be punctual for theory classes and clinical practice according to the schedule given by the institution. College timings is 08:30 AM to PM. The timings may change according to clinical postings. The change will be intimated timely. Students have to submit all assignments exactly on specified dates except in genuine unavoidable circumstances with prior permission. No re-examination will be conducted for those who fail in the sessional examinations. Re-examination of the sessional examinations will be conducted for the students who are absent due to sickness which is supported by authentic Medical Certificates or students who are absent because of some serious problems/ needs at home, which requires their presence. This decision will be made by the college authority. Students will be allowed to appear in the final examinations in the subjects in which they have 80% attendance of the total number of theory classes taken. 80% attendance in the clinical experience hours in the clinical subjects Students are not allowed to use mobile in the college premises, during the class hours or during the clinical experience hours. If found, the mobile will be confiscated. Students must maintain discipline in the classroom and in the college premises so as to ensure a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for learning in the college.
15 CODE OF CONDUCT Students are not allowed to paste notices within the Institution and are forbidden to communicate with any outside authority directly. All such communications must be submitted through the Principal who will forward these if considered desirable. Any students infringing this rule will be suspended. Strictly forbidden in any part of institution are: The possession or use of alcoholic beverages, The possession or use of addictive drugs. Gambling. The possession or use of firearms or any lethal weapons. Loitering around unnecessarily. Use of mobile phone during duty/class hours. Ragging of any student is prohibited and may result in rustication or expulsion from the Institute. Ragging is any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness to any student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which cause or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a fresher or a junior student. All fees must be paid in full by the dates notified time to time. Any student, whose fees, together with the fine imposed, remains unpaid, will be suspended from attending lectures, practical, clinics etc. until the fees/ dues have been paid. All neglect of duties, breach of rules and acts of indiscipline are to be brought to the notice of the Principal. The Principal in consultation with the senior staff members shall deal with any
16 serious offence for which adverse entry in the personal file of the student may be made. The decision of the Principal in all disputes would be final and binding on to the students. LIBRARY RULES 1. Silence and order must be maintained in the library at all times. Infringement of the rules will be suitably dealt with. 2. Any person who loses, defaces the book will be required to be charged at the ongoing rate, along with a fine. In case the book is one of a set or series, the cost of the entire set or series will be recovered if the lost/ damaged copy is not available individually. 3. Books/Periodicals required for occasional reference, including encyclopaedias, rare books and journals are not to be issued. 4. Books borrowed from the library are not transferable. 5. Books will be issued strictly on priority of demand. 6. After having deposited the required security, students are allowed to borrow two books at a time. 7. Students may keep the books up to a maximum of 7 days. After that for each succeeding day that a book is overdrawn a fine will be charged till the book is returned to the library. 8. Every borrower shall be issued a Borrower's card which will be stamped by the librarian each time a book is issued or returned. If the card is lost, a duplicate can be purchased from the office on a payment of Rs. 20/-.
17 9. The Card placed in the pocket at the end of the book must be delivered to the librarian before the book is taken away. 10. All books must be returned to the library before the annual stock checking in June. Student who fails to return the book (s) will be charged Rs. 5/- per day per book, till the book is returned to the library. 11. Periodicals, Publications and newspapers for the student section of the library are placed on the tables. These must not be taken away under any circumstances. Cutting of items from newspapers/ magazines is also strictly prohibited. 12. The borrower must make his/ her own arrangement for carrying the books to and from the library. 13. All new books and journals will be kept in a separate almirah for a fortnight for comments and suggestions. 14. Current journals will not be issued till the time next issue reaches the library. Up to two journals can be issued to the teaching staff for overnight use. 15. Individual departments are permitted to maintain their departmental libraries of highly technical books of utility mainly to the department concerned. Additional copies of these books will be available in the Institution library. The departmental libraries will be open to all staff members. 16. Bound volumes of journals will be treated as books. 17. Books may be renewed on request at the discretion of the librarian. 18. Library timing is subject to variation depending on the requirements. 19. Personal belongings including books, bags etc. shall be left at the counter before entering the library. 20. Eating, smoking, having tea etc. are strictly prohibited in the library. 21. Creating any kind of indiscipline in the library will automatically lead to the cancellation of membership.
18 22. All requests/suggestions/complaints may be addressed to the teacher-in- charge of library. Discipline Rules and regulation are formulated to ensure the discipline in the college, hospital and hostel and will be disseminated to the students from time to time. Violation of the rules will lead to disciplinary actions which will be initiated by the Principal or concerned authorities. Disciplinary Action Students may be terminated from their study for disobedience of the rules and regulations prescribed by the authorities or for misconduct, or for taking part in any movement to create any kind of disturbances in the hospital or hostel or attempt to stage a strike in the college for any reason whatsoever or instigate any other student to do so or take part in any other activity which according to Principal s opinion undermine discipline. Students are not allowed to incur debts. The institution will not be responsible for any such debts. The institution will not be responsible for any loss or damage from whatsoever cause, arising to any property belonging to students. They are advised to leave all valuables and jewellery etc. in their own homes. Duties Student shall be assigned various duties within the department or any other related department as part of their training. They shall be on night duty also from time to time.
