4 Spring 2013 The Required Quantitative Services for graduation are: 15x New Patient Recruit 15x Physical Examination 300x Spinal Adjustment There is a cumulative limit of 50 non-paying spinal adjustments throughout IP 1, 2, and 3. 3x Extremity Adjustment 50x Physical Therapeutics There is a cumulative limit of 10 passive physical therapeutics throughout IP 1, 2, and 3. Interns are responsible to provide documentation (copies of fee slips, confirming slips, and ICAs) to substantiate quantitative and qualitative tallies and grade claims. All patient file X-ray recommendations / lab risks / referrals must be addressed prior to completion of this course. Failure to complete this course will result in additional trimester(s); as Parker University policies, regulatory laws, and statues allow in order to satisfy the Doctor of Chiropractic Program. Failure of and internship practicum will result in at least a 2 week or more delay in receiving a student loan check for the next trimester. ESTIMATE OF STUDENT WORK LOAD: Becoming a chiropractor requires dedication, sacrifice, and self-less service. Interns are required to participate for a minimum of 405 hours. Clinic hours can only be awarded for participation in Parker University IP 1 Labs, Clinic service and events, clinic in-services by faculty (including administration) and official adjunct faculty, approved community outreach events (Texas State Fair, Dallas and Rock n Roll Marathons, Irving ISD Athletic Physical Night, and Komen 3-Day), and approved screenings and health talks. There are no excused absences. Interns, who need to schedule time away because of documented circumstances such as illness, hardship, emergencies, and bereavement, may do so based on assigned Clinical Faculty pre-approval only. Interns have a direct responsibility for each patient s well-being so there is limited opportunity for interns to be absent from their clinic team. Therefore, absences meeting documented circumstances, previously mentioned, are approved on a first-come first-serve basis and are not guaranteed. Intern success requires substantial commitment to tasks associated with patient acquisition, case management, learning quality patient care, preparing for boards and graduation, and beginning a career. It is expected that interns will devote all necessary efforts and energies to achieving patient and practice success. Therefore, interns should budget professional hours per week and plan a personal campaign to complete evaluation and management, treatment, and continued case management services for 30 new external patients, throughout IP 1, IP 2, and IP 3. CONDUCT A professional, caring, and team-based atmosphere is an essential part of successful patient care. As such, it is important that interns support the passion to help our patients through professional behavior. Everyone will contribute to the team by doing the following: iv
5 Follow the dress code at all times. Interns who are not dressed in accordance with the dress code may be sent home, be removed from patient care, experience other corrective action, or lose credit for rendered patient care. Keep all patient documentation in the clinics. Refrain from social gathering around faculty areas and hallways. Interns may gather in designated areas lounge and break areas. Refrain from eating in public areas and loitering in the hallways.
