Emphasizes psychomotor skills necessary to provide selected advanced practice nursing interventions utilized in the care of acutely ill adults in a variety of settings. The impact of social, cultural, psychological, physical and spiritual factors will be explored. It enables the students to develop assessment, critical thinking and decision making skills required for planning and implementing the appropriate nursing care to clients suffering a wide variety of commonly presenting acute and chronic illnesses. General Learning Objectives 1. Discuss appropriate assessment techniques to utilize in caring for clients with various complex health conditions of illness. 2. Apply nursing process to plan the care of clients experiencing complex conditions of illness. 3. Discuss the diagnostic tests relevant complex health conditions. 4. Formulate nursing diagnosis and client goals for clients experiencing various complex health conditions. 5. Identify various cultural practices and beliefs that may impact the care of clients various complex health conditions. 6. Discuss pharmacology as it relates to various complex health conditions. 1

2 Specific Learning Objectives Cognitive: 1. Identify the acute and chronic health conditions that affect adult clients in the Jordan. 2. Identify strategies related to assessment and prevention of chronic illness. 3. Utilize nursing assessment skills to formulate nursing diagnoses based on NANDA for the clients with acute and chronic health conditions. 4. Identify nursing interventions related to a variety of health problems in the adult client suffering from a chronic illness. 5. Describe therapeutic approaches for symptom management in clients experiencing chronic illness. 6. Describe methods to evaluate nursing interventions designed to maintain or promote a client safety. 7. Describe methods of prevention and early detection used to obtain and maintain health in client at risk for development of acute or chronic health care problems. 8. They include: A. Attendance: Your success in this class will depend on regular attendance and punctuality. Attendance is expected at every class, for those who miss more than 15% of lecture hours with or without acceptable excuse will be dismissed from the course. 1) If class is missed, students should get missed information from lecture from a classmate. Instructors will not provide missed information. 2) In the case of a critical life event, homework, quizzes, and exams may be made up, at the discretion of the faculty. B. Reading: 1. Reading of textbook assignments should be done before the topic is presented in class to ensure a basic understanding of the topic before lecture. C. Active Participation in class discussions: Active participation is important to successful learning. You will be encouraged to join in on class discussions, share relevant experiences, and ask questions. Emphasis is placed on practicing English in order to promote English fluency. 4
