LEGISLATION PUBLISHED Good Distribution Practices (new version) Guideline 2013/C 343/01 The Portuguese version of the Guidelines related to Good Distribution Practice of Medicinal Products for Human Use (2013 / C 343/01) were published in the Official Journal of the European Union on November 23rd, This new version corrects factual errors identified in subchapters 5.5 and 6.3 of the revised Guidelines and details the reasons for its review and sets a new the date of application. This version replaces the previous Guidelines published in March The wholesale distribution of medicines is an important activity in the management of the supply chain. Currently, the network of distribution for medicines is increasingly complex and involves many stakeholders. These Guidelines define appropriate tools to help wholesale distributors to develop their activities and prevent the intrusion of counterfeit medicines in the legal supply chain. The observance of the Guidelines will ensure full control of the supply chain and therefore the maintenance of quality and integrity of medicines. European Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications the Directive 2013/55/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, was published in the Journal Official of the European Union on December 28th, amending Directive 2005/36/EC related to the recognition of professional qualifications, and Regulation (EU) No 1024/2012 related to the administrative cooperation through the Internal Market Information System (Regulation IMI). 6 Law of Medicinal Products for Human Use - Law No. 176/2006 The eighth amendment to the Law of Medicinal Products for Human Use was published, which implemented a measure longed by the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society - the creation of the subcategory of Non-Prescription Medicines with Exclusive Dispense in Pharmacies. This new category will cover drugs that given its safety profile and their indications may only be dispensed in pharmacies. Included in this sub-category there are medicines corresponding to 17 active principle ingredients on their own and/or in combination. Thus, Portugal joined the group of EU countries that have adopted this same solution, including the UK and the Netherlands. Among the 12 Member-States (out of 28) in which NPM are available outside pharmacies, only Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania had not yet established this sub-category.
