Our local leadership continue to represent over 1400 nurses in the state and nationally thru the AaNA affiliation with the AFT-Nurses and Health Professionals. We remain open to representing any and all RN's and Health Professionals in Alaska. We all deserve a place at the table to promote safety for our patients. As chair of the labor program of the AaNA, I remain committed to the values of the AaNA. Quality healthcare for all Alaskans can be achieved in many ways. A nurses work environment is a patients healing environment. As chair of the Labor Council, I will continue to promote education and representing nurses at their work site, as well as in the legislative and political process. As nurses and community members, we 1

3 have the opportunity to help Alaskans in many ways through our Union. One of the ways I have engage is to serve on a board for the State of Alaska. My work on the Workers Compensation Board has been very rewarding. I know that my input has direct impact on injured workers in our State. Finally, in the past 2 years the AaNA has found a National union home with the American Federation of Teachers. I am proud to serve my appointment by President Randi Weingarten on the Program and Policy Council for Nurses and Health Professionals. This council sets the body of work to take to the AFT Convention for all AFT Affiliates to vote on. We have some exciting challenges ahead of our Union and important work for the next 2 years. Stay tuned for the AaNA's own 2016 General Assembly where the members will vote on the priorities for Your vote is important. I would be proud to continue to serve the nurses of Alaska by being elected to the Alaska Nurses Association-Labor Council Chair. Board of Directors Vice President/ Labor Council Vice Chair Arlene H. 5 I became involved with the Alaska Nurses Association in 2008, when the nurses at the facility where we work, decided to organize and become union members of the association. Since then, I have served locally as a Grievance Officer, a Director at Large on the Board of Directors, and Labor Council. I still proudly occupy those positions. My priority is the safety and wellbeing of our patients and the nurses who care for them. I believe my service and dedication to the members of the AaNA has shown I am vested in their empowerment and advancement of their nursing profession.
