Business case aspects of NOT having an HMIS system in place, T5 reporting If only it would require 2 mins ( ) for: a) retrieving the patient s file or data, b) filling out and/or inserting the right data, and c) to store the file properly again, this would require minutes per patient, during treatment cycle. For every 160 patients weekly another full time equivalent (person) then would be required. With an integrated repository of patient and other data (EPR) and a system supporting the workflow and data capturing (HMIS), the efforts would decrease drastically, for the benefit of the patient. Even more efficiency will be reached in retrieving, tallying, slicing & dicing and producing the required reporting. 16
17 Lessons learnt Complex to align all parties Requires local and intensive coordination and efforts SIP time Longer than foreseen, to support staff (4-15 weeks depending on number of people trained) Ownership software Don t allow parallel approaches Requirements Manage expectations and project deliverables Equipment (notebooks) Increased volume of data processing - need for adequate devices Very enthusiastic users at all levels Info sharing + learning is important 17
