Stroke Prevention Clinics NACRS Clinic Lite Project Post engagement webinar update Ontario Stroke Network, 2016 ANNOUNCEMENT: As of April 1, 2016, the Ontario Stroke Network (OSN) and Cardiac Care Network of Ontario (CCN) have come together as a single entity to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to cardiac, stroke and vascular care in Ontario.
2 Background: Previously, data collection from stroke secondary prevention clinics (SPC) was through the Ontario Stroke Registry (OSR). The OSR is no longer funded and therefore reporting on key clinical stroke prevention indicators is not possible. Last available data on SPC clinical performance was obtained in the 2011/12 SPC Audit. Loss of OSR created a gap, generating a need to identify a sustainable system for collecting SPC data. In early 2015, CIHI launched NACRS Clinic Lite providing a data collection opportunity specific to clinic/ambulatory care In June 2015, OSN began exploring NACRS Clinic Lite as a means to collect SPC data GOAL OF THE PROJECT: A sustainable standardized data collection and reporting solution for the province that meets stakeholder needs, is necessary to evaluate SPC models of care, patient outcomes, QBP implementation and QI initiatives.
3 Information & Demonstration Webinars: On June 23 rd and 27 th, 2016 OSN & CIHI hosted webinar sessions. All 42 Stroke Prevention Clinics were invited to participate. Following the webinars, a survey was used to gather additional feedback and pilot interest. The objectives of the webinar : 1. To engage the SPCs and Regional and District Stroke Directors in discussion to understand needs, feasibility, data collection options of the NACRS Lite platform 2. To explore potential interest in piloting NACRS lite Webinar Agenda: 1. Project Background, Data to be collected & means of data collection being investigated 2. Demonstration of the CIHI NACRS lite web-based data entry tool 3. Project next steps, Questions & Answers
4 Attendance & Survey Responses 76% Sites Represented Each Regional Director and District Stroke Coordinator was invited, and encouraged to extend the invitation to SPC team members. Of the 42 SPCs identified, 32 sites were represented by attendees in one or both sessions. 23% Response Rate to survey for additional feedback post webinar All attendees were sent a survey link and asked to provide feedback on; support needed for implementation, interest in piloting NACRS lite and, general thoughts on NACRS lite. As of July 20, 2016, 10/42 sites responded with feedback.
5 Pilot Interest Received from Webinar Attendees 25% Expressed Interest 8/32 sites have expressed initial interest in participating in a pilot. 100% Data Collection Options All 3 current proposed data collection options could be piloted: 1 Web tool (direct entry) 2 Meditech (abstracting) 3 Med20/20 (abstracting) 1 Additional Data Collection Option Identified Exploring data abstractor for NACRS lite with 3M
6 Feedback on Support When asked what type of implementation support is needed: 90% Webinar Training 90% Quick Reference 70% Case Examples 40% In Person Training Initial Webinar training for the core team will support implementation Quick Reference guide for web entry tool will be helpful for data entry. To support quality data entry across different clinical environments. In Person Training for the core team for implementation
7 70% Other Feedback; Benefits Indicated they would utilize a Standard Report of SPC data Survey participants were asked: What benefits do you anticipate from having this NACRS Clinic Lite data for your day to day operations and/or patient care? Response Summary: o Better information on processes, timelines, outcomes, provides concrete numbers o Able to better project and plan for patient volumes and wait times o Ability to evaluate our work against best practice o Ability to identify gaps/barriers to care access or equity o Validate areas of success/high performance o Quality Assurance, Process Improvement
Other feedback; Challenges & Solutions Survey Participants were asked to identify barriers to implementing NACRS Clinic Lite and suggestions to eliminate or mitigate those barriers; 8 Challenges Manual data entry when using the web tool Data entry resources may not be available May require changes in the way data is collected in charts to ensure data is available for entry Time for setting up abstracting tool Solutions Explore platforms for automated data entry Phase in system; e.g. start with a portion of patients seen, then increase to build staff confidence and gain buy in Explore shared resources across multiple sites
