2 Foreword By General Manager 24 Ltd and 24 Response Ltd were born from unfortunate personal experiences. In 2006 my Uncle Neil was 48 and had been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer. A few months later it perforated and he died alone in his home and, by all accounts, in pain. Had he not felt that the technology available to him then had a stigma attached to it, he would still be with us today and enjoying Christmas dinners - where my mother still lays a place for him to this day. Then in 2008 my Assistant Manager s 78 year old Grandmother, Ivy, died of a heart attack in her flat, again alone and unable to raise help. Had she had access to this technology and it was not just for means tested individuals, there is a good chance she would still be with us. After these experiences I felt that everyone, whether means tested or not, should have access to the technology that 24 now provides. I started my research into the industry and was amazed to find that there were thousands of cases similar to this every year and yet the technology was there to prevent these tragedies. The facts at the time were that, unless you were on disability benefits or your Doctor recommended these systems to you and you met the means test requirements, it was very difficult to get access to what can only be described as lifesaving technology. This is why 24 and 24 Response were created, to help to remove the stigma of these technologies and allow them to become a part of everyday life. The hope is now that other people s loved ones do not suffer like my family and associates have had to, with the knowledge that these losses could easily have been avoided. 4 The 24 Response Team About 24 Response A state-of-the-art 24 hour monitoring and response centre. Currently monitors over 12,500 UK homes. Centre handles 11,000 calls per week. All calls are recorded for quality control. Response centre is local government backed and supported. 03

Our health and social care systems face a growing challenge, while resources are being reduced. 3.8m 3.8 million people over the age of 65 live alone (and almost half of people over 75) 758 per week The risk of being in a care home increases with age is the average fee for a single room in a nursing home in England. 05

7 Stay at home solutions Facts You Should Know Nearly 1 in 5 people in the UK will live to see their 100th birthday The number of centenarians living in the UK has risen by 73% over the last decade. Elderly couples who stay together in their own home (rather than being separated) are happier in each others company and are more at ease. Over 65 s are estimated to spend an average of 80% of their time in the home. 8 The 24 Platinum Care Package Home Unit and Pendant This is the intelligent centre at the heart of your home that simply plugs into your phone line. If you require help at any time you just press the button on your wireless pendant and you will be connected to the care team. The user can communicate with the monitoring centre, (or nominated responder), using the built-in high quality digital speaker-phone. Fall Detector Senses if the user has fallen and remains immobile. Has an ergonomic button which the wearer can press to call for help. Comes with 5 sensitivity settings, multi-directional and impact detection. 07

9 Stay at home solutions Pull Cord Ceiling pull cord switches can be fitted in bathrooms, alongside the bed or anywhere personal pendants are not usually worn. An alarm call is made by simply pulling the cord once. The cord is long enough to reach floor level. Smoke Detector Providing increased reassurance by raising an alarm call. When activated a local alarm will sound and an alarm call will be transmitted. The Control Centre can speak with the home owner and assess the risk before contacting the emergency services. 08

10 The 24 Platinum Care Package Heat Detector Heat Detectors are ceiling mounted in kitchens or areas with high levels of fumes or dust. When activated, a local alarm will sound and an alarm call will be transmitted. The Control Centre can speak with the home owner and assess the risk before contacting the emergency services. Carbon Monoxide Detector Mounted above door height in rooms that contain a fuel burning appliance. If a dangerous level of carbon monoxide is detected a local alarm will sound and an alarm call will be transmitted. 09

11 Stay at home solutions Flood Detector The flood detector is located on the floor below the bath, wash basin or kitchen sink, or anywhere a tap could be left running. Can be free-standing or fixed to the skirting board. If a flood is detected an alarm call will be transmitted. Bogus Caller Button The Bogus Caller Button is usually wall mounted in the hallway alongside the front door where it can easily be pressed if the resident feels threatened or uneasy with a visitor. 10

12 The 24 Platinum Care Package Door Entry System A wall-mounted, mains operated unit which displays an image of the visitor when the doorbell is pressed. This gives you piece-of-mind before opening the door. If you have an unwanted visitor who doesn t want to leave use the Bogus Caller Button. Call Monitor Designed to work in the background, blocking unwanted calls. You can continue to use the same telephone and there are no codes to learn or special buttons to press the phone just rings less often! The level of protection that is offered can be adjusted. 13 Stay at home solutions Key Safe Storing a spare set of keys in a hidden location outside your home can compromise your security. By installing a Key Safe it ensures that your keys are kept safe, secure and can only be accessed by those persons who you give the Key Safe code to. All 24 products are backed by advice, support and after sales services and a Customer Satisfaction Centre that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 12

14 The 24 Platinum Care Package 24 hour, 365 day a year access to 24 Response. Alerts from the sensors will be received at the 24/7 monitoring centre where trained operators will respond. Depending on the nature of the alert they will call one of your nominated contacts or call the emergency services. The monitoring centre regularly deals with a wide variety of calls, including users who have: Smelt smoke or gas. Heard an unwelcome noise outside. Received a suspicious or unexpected visitor at the door. Had an accident in the home such as a trip or fall. Need to hear and speak to a friendly voice. 13
