1 Division of Health Sciences 101 Cunningham Blvd Booneville, Mississippi Phone (662) /(800) Fax (662) Alternate Placement Practical Nursing Education The Alternate Placement Practical Nursing Education option is available to assist individuals who were unsuccessful in their original program of study (NEMCC ADN) with career options, employment opportunities, and alternate pathways for achieving career goals. Eligible students under consideration for the Alternate Placement Practical Nursing Education must apply, fulfill all program requirements, and be evaluated for acceptance to the program. The PNE Alternate Placement Application includes completed Medical Forms and verification of skills competencies. Students are only eligible for consideration within one year of leaving the A.D.N. program. Eligibility does not guarantee admission to the program. Available slots for admission may be limited; therefore students should strongly consider their commitment to the program prior to accepting an admission slot. Eligible students will be admitted based on the Alternate Placement PNE rating scale. In order to be considered for the Advanced Placement Practical Nursing Education, the student must: Submit application(s) to the college and the PNE program by May 1 for summer semester or fall semester or November 1 for spring semester. These applications may be obtained from the Division of Health Sciences main office in Childers. Update the application(s) each semester up until one year after leaving A.D.N. program. Meet the PNE program requirements for admission. Have successfully completed NUR 1118 Nursing Fundamentals in the Associate Degree Nursing curriculum with a C or higher grade and must have successfully completed all skills check offs in NUR Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at time of program application. Admission may be rescinded and reversed based on review of the student s criminal background check. Students who refuse to submit to a criminal background check/fingerprinting or do not pass the criminal background check/fingerprinting will be dismissed from the program. Students who are dismissed from a Health Science Program may seek admission into another educational program that does not have a clinical component requirement in its curriculum. The NEMCC Allied Health Program and the State of Mississippi requires that all students validate no history of conviction of or pled guilty to or nolo contendere to a felony of possession or sale of drugs, murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, rape, sexual battery, any sex offence listed in Section (g), child abuse, arson, grand larceny, burglary, gratification of lust, aggravated assault, or felonious abuse and/or battery of a vulnerable adult or that any such conviction or plea was reversed on appeal or a pardon was granted for the conviction or plea. 7 Background check results from an agency other than the Mississippi Department of Health will not be accepted. All students will be required to have a criminal background check/fingerprinting, including students currently employed in local and regional clinical affiliates. Employer Letters from human resource manager, clinical affiliates, etc. will not be accepted in lieu of a current background check/fingerprinting. Students are responsible for payment of all fees charged for the background check/fingerprinting service. The Mississippi Department of Health will report the findings of the criminal background checks to the Academic Head of the Division of Health Sciences. The report will indicate, No disqualifying events or disqualifying event/s. If the student has disqualifying event/s, the student must submit a rap sheet report to the Academic Head of the Division of Health Sciences with full explanation of the conviction/s or disposition of charge/s. Health Science students who complete the criminal background check/fingerprinting with no disqualifying event/s will receive a two year letter from the Academic Head of the Division of Health Sciences. Answer all questions and, if appropriate, sign the release of information. Applications submitted with unanswered questions will be considered incomplete and may delay your ability to enter the program.
