Computer and internet access is a requirement for all PN students, due to classes being blended/online. The faculty of the PN Program strongly discourages students from full-time or part-time employment. Students with financial difficulties should discuss alternatives to employment with the Financial Aid Office. The students schedule requires a flexible lifestyle as clinical experience is held at area facilities during assigned hours which may include days and/or evenings. Because of this, transportation, child care, and any employment should be considered prior to entry into the program. Some classes may require more than the scheduled time (i.e. individual practice time in the nursing lab) for an individual student to meet the learning objectives. Students should plan schedules to be able to meet these learning expectations. Revised ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible for admission into the PN Program the student must: 1. be accepted as a student in the college (see admission procedures). 2. complete and submit the PN Program application by April 15 for the August class and October 15 for the January class. The written application for admission must be renewed yearly. Applicants applying after the deadline will be considered for admission if space is available and they meet the admission criteria as stated in the admission requirements. 3. have completed the ACT or ACCUPLACER Test and have scores sent to Northark (see College Requirements for Placement). Transfer students must submit a complete transcript. 4. must complete all college preparatory classes based on scores on the ACT or ACCUPLACER Test with a C or above before being accepted into the PN Program.
4 5. have official high school transcript or GED scores sent to the Admissions Office at Northark. 6. have official transcripts from colleges/universities attended sent to the Admissions Office at Northark. Must hold a 2.5 grade point average or higher for entry into the program. 7. complete the prerequisite course BIOL 1434 Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology or BIOL 2214 Anatomy and Physiology I and BIOL 2224 Anatomy and Physiology II with a minimum grade of a C. It must be successfully completed within five years of entry into the program. 8. have a CNA license and submit it with the application. 9. submit a completed health form on the first day of class verifying good physical and mental health. 10. submit to a urine 10 panel drug screen. 11. submit the following immunizations on the first day of class: a. MMR Two MMRs or a positive rubella titer for antibodies b. Hepatitis B series of 3 or positive titer c. Tdap within the last 10 years. The Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) immunization is needed every 10 years to remain protected. d. Tuberculin (TB) skin test within the last year. The TB skin test is required annually and must remain current throughout the program. If a negative TB test cannot be provided, a negative chest x-ray must be provided to the program. e. Varicella series of two vaccines; or positive titer f. Flushot It is the student s responsibility to ensure immunizations are current for the duration of the program. Students who are not in compliance with these requirements will be unable to meet clinical requirements and will be dismissed from the program. Revised Revised be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Healthcare Provider Course prior to entry in the PN Program. Students must maintain certification throughout the program. CPR must be obtained through the American Heart Association. 13. students must carry malpractice insurance which is obtained the first semester when paying fees. 14. students who are offered a place in an entering class must accept by phone or in writing by the date indicated on the acceptance letter or the position will be given to the next alternate. 15. attend an all day orientation session prior to starting the program.
5 16. submit to a criminal background check prior to clinical experience. The Health Professions students will be required to undergo Criminal Background Checks prior to participating in any assigned clinical experiences. Hospitals and agencies affiliated with North Arkansas College are asking for students to be checked in order to satisfy their compliance requirements. North Arkansas College has entered into an arrangement with Verified Credentials to provide this service to all nursing and health profession students. The cost of the student background check service is included as a program fee at registration once yearly for students accepted and actively enrolled in the PN, RN, Surg Tech, Med Lab Tech, Rad Tech and EMS/Paramedic programs. Updated Background Screening: The background screening service is initiated at the faculty member s direction and includes screening searches of criminal records, nationwide sex offender registry, residency history and education, employment and social security verifications. Reports include OIG/GSA, SDN/OFAC and Adult/Child Abuse databases (Nationwide Healthcare Fraud & Abuse scan and USA Patriot Act registries). Students are directed to the Verified Credentials website to initiate this service by the faculty or program director. As the background checks are completed, the results are available online 24/7 to both the student and the school to review. Clinical Sharing will also be enabled to allow clinical sites to easily view background check results online for students assigned to a specific location. All information is encrypted under the same high security procedures implemented by banks, credit card companies and similar websites requesting sensitive information. Updated submit to a Federal and Arkansas criminal background check during the last 8 weeks of the PN Program according to the Nurse Practice Act Subchapter Criminal Background checks as below.
