6 Questions to ask for exchange Family consent? E.g. personal safety concern Family financial support? Health condition? WIE/internship and other personal plans? Academic plan? Your motivation to accept nomination? Preventable withdrawal will bring negative consequence on you for future chances for scholarships, student activity sponsorships, and/or positive recommendation letters as you take this valuable opportunity from other students. Be very serious!

8 Personal Amber (yellow) OTA sign of threat > Countries under OTA: Belgium, France, Germany, Singapore, Thailand etc. > Exchange programme to Amber OTA countries will proceed as planned. > CMAO will closely monitor the situation & keep students updated.

9 Personal Amber (yellow) OTA sign of threat > If OTA raises to Red : the University will advise student to terminate the exchange immediately and return to Hong Kong as early as possible. > If OTA raises to Black, the student should contact the Chinese Embassy/Chinese Consulate-General in their destination immediately to seek for evacuation assistance. > Stay in touch with the exchange office in the host institution about local conditions.

23 50 hour-points!? Mentoring Services to other FB Exchange Students ( 20 service hour-points) Act as mentors/advisors for FB junior students who are going to exchange And to participate in the sharing session for mentees Producing Insightful Journal (5 to 10 service hour-points) Reflect your observations, personal growth, experiences & personal insight over exchange experiences Different forms such as essays, drawings, pictures, poems, songs, audio-visual presentation, be creative! Publicizing Insightful Journal (5 to 40 service hour-points) Sharing the journal to benefit others Different means such as Facebook, blog on internet, self initiated sharing forum, publishing books & leaflet be effective! Act as volunteered student helpers for Dept/Faculty/PolyU or Volunteer Service provider for Society ( 10 service hour-points), these hours will not be counted for WIE.

25 Nomination Procedure You can apply for FB for exchange places at faculty level & institutional level Check the availability of exchange opportunities and sort out your priorities before lodging an application 25

26 Application Procedure Step 1 - VERY IMPORTANT MUST do research on the courses/subjects available at the host institutions via: The Chinese Mainland Affairs Office (CMAO) website to look for the information of partner universities. Partner List: The senior FB students who have participated in the exchange programme in past years. The website of exchange partner institutions. 26

27 Step 2 Application Procedure March 2017 Application via online system 29 & 30 March 2017 Selection interview will be conducted (all selected students must attend) 11 April 2017 Shortlisted students will be notified their nominations to their prioritised exchange universities (at FB Level or Institutional Level) 12 April 2017 Consultation briefing to shortlisted students (Room R402 at 6:00pm) 19 April 2017 Deadline of acceptance/decline of nomination of shortlisted students 27

28 FB ISE Online Application System ( MUST fill in all the following parts: Part A Personal Information Part B Chinese Examination Results Part D Preference on Mainland/Taiwan Universities (max. 30 universities) Part E Financial Assistance Part F Applicant Undertaking Fill in the following parts if you have record: Part C1 Extra-curricular Activities/ Community Services Part C2 Awards/ Scholarship Review the online application and make necessary changes by 23 March 2017 (Thur) before submission. All information after your submission cannot be changed. 28

29 FB ISE Online Application System ( Special points to note Latest exchange partner list will be uploaded in the online application system, which is same as the list available in CMAO website ( Save your application before going to the next part Time-out period: 30 minutes Incorrect data leads to disqualification Some exchange places are for students of a particular school/dept only (e.g. LMS only) Upload supporting documents to prove your input information (e.g. public exam certs, volunteer service certs, competition certs, scholarship certs, etc.) 29

30 Selection Criteria Score will be given to: Cumulative GPA 2.75 or above in Semester 1, 2016/17 (on discretion of the Faculty, consideration may go to applicants with CGPA between 2.50 and 2.74, with the potential to reach CGPA 2.75 or above in Semester 2, but with lower priority) Interview performance Extra-curricular activities Community service activities Awards & scholarship 30

31 Nomination Procedure FB & Institutional Level FB to make final decision Nomination result will be announced on 11 April 2017 Acceptance or rejection on the nomination must be indicated by students Students on waiting list will be considered if new exchange places arise Students must maintain CGPA at 2.75 or above before their exchange, otherwise nominations will be revoked 31
