1 Overview The State of Connecticut is providing $1.2 million annually in financial support for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program in six (6) schools within the Connecticut Technical High School System. In order to fund the remaining costs of operating the program, the Connecticut Technical High School System requested and was approved for a tuition and fee increase for the new LPN class which begins its classroom training in January The approved tuition for in-state students is $11,550 payable over three (3) semesters. The outof-state rate is $23,772 payable over three (3) semesters. The new LPN class calendar is as follows: Semester one: January 2014 to June 2014; Semester two: August 2014 to December 2014; Semester three: January 2015 to June Students are responsible for paying the entire tuition for that semester regardless of withdrawal date (unless due to military action or illness). 4 Pell grant awards for and The maximum federal Pell grant award for (from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014) is $5,645. However, based on the actual number of planned semester hours for the first semester, the maximum CTHSS LPN Pell award will be $4,892. Assuming the maximum federal Pell award does not change for , the maximum CTHSS LPN award for the second and third semesters based on planned semester hours will be the full $5,645. Students should have applied for their Pell grant by November 18, 2013 to ensure a determination has been made prior to the first installment due date. Otherwise they are responsible for the first full installment of $770 (in-state) or $1, (out-of-state). Applying for financial aid (Pell Grant) includes applying online at as well as completing the CTHSS Financial Aid Packet. Early award decisions will be made to those who apply by November 18, 2013 and who submit complete financial aid information to the financial aid administrator. First semester ( Pell award year: $4,892) (For eligible full Pell Awardees only with an EFC = 0) The Pell grant awards for the award year will be issued in two equal disbursements. First disbursement for award year The first disbursement of $2, will be issued in February For in-state students, $1, will be credited to the student s account and $ will be issued to the student for books, uniforms and other costs. For out-of-state students, the entire $2,446 will be credited to the student s account. Second disbursement for award year The second disbursement of $2,446 will be issued to the student in May/June For in-state students $1, will be credited to the student s account and $ will be issued to the student for books, uniforms and other costs. 7 Option #9 for in-state and out-of-state LPN Students awarded a partial Pell grant LPN students determined to eligible for a partial Pell grant award will be responsible for the remaining balance in five (5) equal installments each semester. All payments should be made payable to Treasurer, State of Connecticut by a bank check or a money order. I understand that if I do not make payments as scheduled, I will be immediately dismissed from the program and will be subject to bad debt collection actions taken by the State of Connecticut. I also understand that I will still owe the full semester tuition if I am dismissed or I withdraw from the program after 14 calendar days of each semester of the LPN program.
