Matt Kelly, President, Northwest Chapter of FAEP Keith Wilkins, President, FLERA John Meade, Chair, A&WMA Coastal Plains Chapter Dave Robau, Executive Director, Gulf Coast Energy Network (GCEN) 10 10:30 a.m. Presentation Title: Downsizing a Living Shoreline: Retail-scale Options for Private Properties on Exposed, Rapidly-Eroding Coasts Speaker: Chips Kirschenfeld, Marine Biologist Bio: Taylor Chips Kirschenfeld is a marine biologist with over 25 years of water quality, wetland, and habitat restoration experience in Northwest Florida. Chips is currently the Senior Scientist managing the Escambia County Water Quality & Land Management Division where he has obtained over $20 million in federal and state grant funds for county water quality improvement projects. Previously, Chips worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as Manager of the Northwest Florida Ecosystem Restoration Section. Chips was involved with the original concept and design of Project Greenshores, one of the largest oyster reef and salt marsh restoration projects in Northwest Florida, and he coordinated over $2 million in grants and contributions for this nationally recognized award-winning project. Chips also teaches Environmental Law and Coastal and Marine Environments at the University of West Florida where he has been a Faculty Associate in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department for over 15 years. He serves on several boards including the Bay Area Resource Council Technical Advisory Committee (Chairman), the Emerald Coastkeeper, the Page 1 of 6
2 Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, the City of Pensacola Planning Board, Keep Pensacola Beautiful, and the Ecosystem Restoration Support Organization (President). For the past 25 years, Chips has been a resident of downtown Pensacola where he co-owns Dharma Blue Restaurant in the Seville Historical District. 10:30 11 a.m. Presentation Title: Indoor Air Quality and Mold: Issues in the Built Environment Speaker: Jeremy R. Jernigan, CIH, CSP, CHMM, Professional Services Industries, Inc. (PSI) Bio: Jeremy Jernigan began with PSI in 1998, and is currently a Regional Scientist for Environmental Services. The primary qualifying agent for PSI s Florida asbestos license, Mr. Jernigan also manages PSI s Environmental and Facilities Group in Pensacola, FL. Jeremy is a graduate of the University of West Florida, with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies. He provides comprehensive industrial hygiene services nationwide to address chemical, physical, and biological hazards and stressors in the workplace. As an active member of several professional associations, Mr. Jernigan takes leadership roles and understands the value of participation. He maintains numerous local, state, and national certifications and registrations, as well as participating in comprehensive on-going internal training through PSI s Learning Management System. Mr. Jernigan has consulted for several Department of Defense and other federal facilities, and maintains a varied private client base that consists of multi-site and global companies including: power companies, large retail companies, manufacturers, food service providers, heavy equipment dealers, property management companies, clothing manufacturers, health care facilities, airlines, telecommunications providers, hotel/resort chains, data management/call center corporations, the metal recycling industry, as well as architectural/engineering/construction firms :10 a.m. - Break, Sponsor Booths 11:10 11:40 a.m. Presentation Title: Creating Injectable Barriers Speakers: Robert W. Moody, Jr. and Tommy Russum, URETEK Holdings, Inc. Bio: Robert Moody is a 37-year environmental career professional and the President of URETEK Holdings, Inc. He has had the pleasure of working on many significant environmental projects including the Love Canal, which were the nation s first Superfund site and the Deepwater Horizon Spill Response. More recently he has overseen the successful implementation of URETEK s Injectable Barrier technology for groundwater contamination control on seven sites in Florida. Mr. Moody is also a licensed contractor in numerous states including Florida. He is a current board member and past chairman of Florida s Construction Industry Licensing Board, the statutory entity that regulates all construction contractors and businesses in Florida. 3 capacity he serves on many committees, which conduct official State business pertaining to regulation of the construction professions. Bio: Prior to joining URETEK Holdings, Inc. as a Business Development Associate, Tommy Russum was the Lead Foreman for URETEK Holdings, Inc., and has over five years of experience in leading teams to complete chemical grouting projects successfully. Tommy oversaw individual projects on a day-to-day basis, and is extremely knowledgeable with our materials, applications, and processes. Tommy also took the lead in URETEK training and safety programs, to keep our field personnel performing at the highest level possible for our various clients. 11:40 12:00 p.m. Grab lunch and return to seats :45 p.m. KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Title: Wading Through EPA's Clean Water Rule (a/k/a WOTUS) and Trying to Stay Dry Speaker: Susan Floyd King, Jones Walker LLP Bio: Susan Floyd King is special counsel in Jones Walker LLP s Real Estate Practice Group and a member of the Environmental team. King's environmental law practice includes the facilitation of project management and assisting clients in meeting regulatory requirements under state and federal law, especially in the areas of permitting and the resolution of environmental compliance issues. King received her Juris Doctorate degree from Mississippi College School of Law, completed her undergraduate degree at Sewanee: The University of the South, and her Master of Education in Gifted Studies at Mississippi University for Women. She is member of the Governing Council of the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources and Program Chair for the 45 th Annual Spring Conference, which will be held in Austin, Texas in March King has been recognized in "Chambers USA America's Leading Lawyers for Business" and Mid-South Super Lawyers. In 2014, King was named one of "Mississippi's 50 Leading Business Women by the Mississippi Business Journal. 1 1:30 p.m. Presentation Title: RESTORE in Northwest Florida Speaker: Jessica Koelsch, Florida Policy Specialist, Gulf of Mexico Restoration, National Wildlife Federation Page 3 of 6
4 Bio/Abstract: It s been over five years since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, destroying both human and marine lives. While many fines and penalties have been and continue to be -- paid by BP and its partners, it is often overwhelming to try to keep track of who is receiving money for what, and what are the real benefits to the community and the environment. Pensacola s Jessica Koelsch, Florida Policy Specialist for National Wildlife Federation, will provide an update and overview of restoration processes such as RESTORE and NRDA, and share information on where we are today both locally and regionally. Jessica works with many of the 23 Gulf-Coast Counties (individually and collectively), as well as with the State of Florida, as they develop plans and select projects to implement with restoration funds. 1:30 2 p.m. Presentation Title: Solar in the Sunshine State Speaker: Dan Gardner, Principal/Co-Founder, Vice-President of Business Development, Compass Solar Bio: Dan Gardner has over 11 years in the solar industry and co-founded Compass Solar Energy in 2007 as part of a merger between Compass Solar LLC and Solar Guys INC. He currently serves as President with responsibilities as Vice President of Business Development. Prior to Compass Solar Energy, he founded Going Solar INC in 2004 just as the Solar Industry was taking hold and would later merge to form Compass Solar LLC in Today Compass Solar Energy is the largest Design Build Firm in Northwest Florida with over 30 full time employees building Solar Energy systems throughout the US. Compass Solar has dedicated teams for Military and large scale solar farms as well as a residential division servicing Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. Prior to Renewable Energy, Dan held various Executive positions in the Healthcare Industry; Executive Director for 1 st Physicians Group a large primary care network based in Pensacola, Executive Vice President of ART a national emergency physician management company, and Regional Director of Network Development for an Arkansas based managed care company. Dan holds a Bachelor s degree from the University of Memphis. He and his wife, Mary have 3 children and are active in their church and community. 2 2:30 p.m. Presentation Title: 2015 Regulatory Update: Process Safety Speaker: Sandy Owens, CHMM, CSP, Geosyntec Consultants Bio: Sandy Owens is a Senior Scientist based in Florida with over 20 years of experience in environmental, health & safety (EHS) compliance. Sandy has technical expertise in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance including auditing; leading process hazard analyses (PHA) using HAZOP and What-If/Checklist methodologies; preparing RMP submissions; program Page 4 of 6
5 development, and training. In addition, she has experience with EHS compliance auditing; Tier II submissions; EHS risk assessments evaluating aspects and impacts using risk matrices; Oil Pollution Prevention regulations; and comprehensive RCRA waste management for operating facilities. While with her prior employer, she developed and delivered PSM/RMP training to train staff and build a group of PSM/RMP practioners. Sandy s experience includes processes containing a variety of toxics and flammables. Representative client facility types include: ammonia refrigerated warehouses, food processors, bottling facilities (beer, spirits, soda, water, juice), pulp and paper mills, aerosol manufacturing, pesticide and herbicide manufacturing, water and wastewater chlorination, medical/pharmaceutical manufacturing, fertilizer production, power production, oil and gas refining, and a variety of proprietary chemical manufacturing processes. 2:30 3 p.m. Presentation Title: Blue is the New Green, Preserving Our Most Valuable Resource Speaker: Dr. Jennifer L. Languell, President, Trifecta Construction Solutions Bio: For more than 19 years, Dr. Jennifer Languell has championed the integration of green building principles and sustainable design within the construction industry. Today, as Founder and President of Trifecta Construction Solutions, she remains an outspoken advocate and valued consultant to a wide range of industries that are incorporating sustainable business practices into their daily operations. In 2011 she became the first person to receive the National Association of Home Builders Green Advocate of the Year award twice since its inception in Her work has included the creation of award-winning high-rise, multi-family, and single-family residential project, commercial projects, and some of the largest and most sustainable land developments in the world. She has also become a trusted consultant to governments and municipalities that are rapidly moving toward more sustainable and fiscally prudent operating and management practices. Dr. Languell and Trifecta have received numerous awards from government and industry organizations such as the Urban Land Institute, National Association of Home Builders, Center for Sustainable Florida, and the Florida Green Building Coalition. An award-winning author, Dr. Languell was also selected as a technical advisor and star for the Discovery Channel s environmental series Discovery Project Earth. Dr. Languell serves in leadership roles with many non-profit organizations, is a past President/Vice President of the Florida Green Building Coalition, a LEED Accredited Professional for the USGBC, a Class 1 Certified Energy Rater, a NAHB Verifier and Certified Green Professional, and a Certifying Agent with the Florida Green Building Coalition. She has certified over five million square feet of buildings and 30,000 acres of land developments using programs such as LEED, FGBC and Green Globes. Page 5 of 6
