1 NONPROFIT LOAN Seattle, Washington SEADRUNAR RECYCLING Seattle Drug & Narcotic Center (Seadrunar) was founded in 1968 by Nan Busby, a recovered addict who became a strong advocate for people struggling with addictions. Seadrunar has since helped more than 8,000 men and women. MISSION IMPACTS 65 jobs created or retained 236 low-income families assisted 32 million BTUs saved 8,054 metric tons of greenhouse gases averted $850,000 value-add processing $800,000 other funds leveraged IN THEIR WORDS As a nonprofit, obtaining traditional financing can be a challenge. Partnering with Craft3 has provided us with a capacity to grow business, the opportunity to remain competitive and the ability to be a leader in recycling. - Sheri Healey Seadrunar Recycling Seadrunar Recycling provides individuals in treatment with a work-therapy environment that enables them to become productive members of the community, teaching them supervisory and job skills, responsibility and accountability. At the 42,000-square-foot facility, trainees sort, bale and ship approximately 30,000 tons of upgraded recyclable materials a year across the country and throughout the world. The recycling facility s primary purpose is to support the operations of Seadrunar. This became difficult after cities began comingling the collection of recyclables. While this method is more convenient for consumers and businesses, it sacrifices the quality of the end product. To remain competitive and profitable, Seadrunar Recycling needed new equipment that was able to effectively and efficiently process the comingled materials. As a nonprofit organization with bond financing in a generally volatile industry, Seadrunar Recycling and its parent company, Seadrunar, were unable to secure traditional financing. But with its strong projections and collateral position, Seadrunar was able to obtain a $850,000 equipment loan from Craft3 through the Washington State Small Business Credit Initiative. This financing not only supports recycling operations, but also the treatment and job training of participants. 2 WISErg CORPORATION Redmond, Washington CLEAN ENERGY LOAN WISErg is a hybrid technology company which converts food scraps from sources like grocery stores and restaurants into valuable, organic fertilizer. The company utilizes a patented, oxidative conversion technology to intercept nutrients from food scraps before they become waste. IN THEIR WORDS WISErg is grateful to Craft3 for its initial funding which enabled us to scale the number of harvesters in use and the volume of WISErganic fertilizer created, confirming the efficacy of this technology and solution. -Larry LeSueur CEO, WISErg ABOUT CRAFT3 Craft3 is a nonprofit CDFI lender with a mission to strengthen economic, ecological and family resilience in Northwest communities. We offer loans to commercial clean energy businesses throughout Oregon and Washington. WISErganic is the premium organic liquid fertilizer derived from the discarded food scraps using an innovative, low-impact technology process that rescues and reuses organic material before it begins to decompose. This is an important consideration given that food scraps account for more than 20 percent of all landfill methane emissions. With WISErganic, food growers -- from agribusinesses to backyard gardeners -- now have a pesticide-free product for replenishing soil nutrients that won t clog irrigation systems, leads to sustained crop performance and is produced in an environmentally sustainable way. Craft3 provided WISErg with a Clean Energy Loan to finance the installation of 14 Harvesters at grocery stores in Western Washington. With support from the Washington State Clean Energy Fund, Craft3 offers loans to help businesses finance commercial energy-efficiency work and renewable energy technology installations. Our investment in WISErg strengthens economic, ecological and family resilience by supporting economic growth and opportunity, investing in critical industries and reducing impact on climate change and nature. 3 Craft3 Future Energy loan Seattle, Washington Artisan Electric Artisan Electric is a full-service residential and commercial electrical contractor specializing in solar photovoltaic systems throughout the Puget Sound. Since 2007, Artisan has helped shape the areas energy future by educating communities, simplifying processes and creating energy solutions that are both practical and elegant. In just seven years, Artisan Electric grew from a $100,000 company to over $7 million. Owners Jason Williams and Evan Leonard found that while they excelled in running sales, design and installations, neither fully understood the financial side. High revolving balances and overhead and inefficiencies were making it impossible to make a profit. With the help of a new controller, they cleaned up and reconciled the financials. Jason and Evan needed capital to pay off debt, but traditional banks couldn t help. Craft3 could. Craft3 provided Artisan Electric with a Future Energy Fund Loan for working capital and to refinance existing debt. With generous support from the Washington State Clean Energy Fund, Craft3 offers loans to help businesses finance commercial energy-efficiency work and renewable energy technology installations through the Craft3 Future Energy Fund. 5 Craft3 Business loan Seattle, Washington Equinox Studios In 2006, Sam Farrazaino opened Equinox Studios as a community of artists and artisans in Seattle s Georgetown neighborhood. Today, Equinox houses 42 studios and shops with over 65 tenants. The artist s work ranges from blacksmithing and metal sculpture, to painting and ceramics, with woodwork, leatherwork, glass and photography. The culture of Equinox is to build a community that encourages and fosters collaboration among the artists in residence. It has a unique business model in that it is 100 percent tenant owned. Not only does this make artists invested in the studio s success, is also makes Equinox sustainable. The availability of artist work spaces has not kept up with demand in Seattle. So when Sam was presented with the opportunity to purchase the McKinnon and Commissary buildings adjacent to the current studio location, he took it. But banks said the construction and lack of liquidity was too risky. Craft3 provided Equinox Studios with a State Small Business Credit Initiative loan for the purchase, repair and remodel of the two buildings. This loan was possible with support provided by Washington State Department of Commerce to make State Small Business Credit Initiative loans to Washington businesses unable to access traditional sources of capital. It focuses on providing radio service to the local African-American communities of Seattle, Tacoma and Portland.
