2 About IHA Since IHA was formed more than 20 years ago we have championed continuous improvement and sustainable practices in the hydropower sector. In offering Fellow membership, we are seeking to recognise senior professionals who, through their service and commitment, have moved the sector forward and been an inspiration to others. IHA is a non-profit organisation that works with a vibrant network of members and partners active in more than 100 countries. Since we were created in 1995, under the auspices of the UNESCO, we have supported the sector on a remarkable journey. The world s installed hydropower capacity has grown from 625 GW to over 1,250 GW, catalysing development and improving people s lives around the world. Our mission is to advance sustainable hydropower by building and sharing knowledge on its role in renewable energy systems, responsible freshwater management and climate change solutions. Our vision is a world where water and energy services are delivered to all in a sustainable way. 3 Why become a Fellow? Fellowship is a new tier of IHA membership which recognises the expertise of leading professionals within the hydropower sector. Fellow status is awarded on the basis of proven experience and is a great opportunity to develop your professional network and connect with peers from around the world. The IHA Fellowship recognises your contribution to the sector by awarding you a professional title in the form of the letters F.IHA after your name and raising your profile among the hydropower community. Fellowship provides an opportunity to collaborate with fellow industry leaders through online groups, trainings, workshops, webinars and other events, and to share your wealth of knowledge, experience and ideas to IHA s programmes. To be eligible, you must: be a member of IHA (individual member or corporate representative); have five years experience in a senior management position in hydropower or ten years experience in a specialist field relating to hydropower; be supported by two professional referees; share a commitment to the mission and values of IHA; Individual members There is no extra charge to become a Fellow, provided you are a current member and meet the eligibility requirements. Corporate members Fellowship is a benefit of corporate membership. Depending on their level of membership, coporates can nominate up to ten corporate representatives as Fellows at no additional cost, provided those nominated meet the eligibility requirements. 4 Fellowship terms and conditions 1. Fellowship Fellows are members of the International Hydropower Association with recognised expertise in the hydropower sector. All members of the association with relevant professional background can apply to become a fellow member; Fellow membership is free of charge and is awarded on the basis of proven experience. 1.1 All candidates for Fellowship must be members of IHA, either as an individual or as a representative of a corporate member. Therefore the Fellowship shall be open to Individual members of IHA with at least five years professional experience in a senior management position, or ten years experience in a specialist field within the hydropower sector, who will be known as Individual Fellows and who will have to provide contact details of two professional referees Individuals nominated by the Primary Representative of their organisation and one other professional referee. The individual, known as Nominated Fellow, must also have at least five years professional experience in a senior management position, or ten years experience in a specialist field within the hydropower sector. 1.2 By applying to become a Fellow member, you hereby give IHA permission to share your application form with your referees. In addition, you give your consent for IHA to publish your name, professional title, employer, summary professional profile and expertise as part of a register of all Fellows on IHA s website, annual report and online member community. 2. Individual Fellows 2.1 Applicants for individual Fellow membership will send an application form to IHA, providing the names and addresses of two referees. The application shall be signed by the applicant to confirm their agreement with the objectives of the association IHA reserves the right to refuse an applicant who does not meet the criteria to qualify for the title, or who fails to provide details of the required referees or if any references are deemed unacceptable by IHA. The association also reserves the discretionary right to decline a Fellow member application for any other reason deemed relevant by IHA. In that event, the applicant will still be a member of the Association but will not be entitled to the Fellowship title Once applicants become Fellow members, they will be able to use the letters F.IHA after their name Fellowship is a benefit of membership; when membership ends for any reason, the person ceases to be a Fellow and is not entitled to use the letters F.IHA after his or her name or to benefit from IHA IHA reserves the right to verify the references upon renewal of membership. The Individual Fellow will remain a Fellow on renewal of membership, provided that IHA deems this appropriate. 3. Nominated Fellows 3.1 Applicants from an IHA corporate member will be nominated by the Primary representative of their organisation and will meet the criteria described in clause The Primary representative will sign and send the nomination form to IHA, confirming that their nominated employee(s) meet(s) the required criteria. Each nomination must also be supported by an additional professional referee. 3.2 Each corporate member will be able to nominate a number of Fellows free of charge. Platinum members can nominate ten Fellows, Gold can nominate four and Silver can nominate one. If the organisation wishes to recommend an extra number of employees for the title, the organisation or the individual will have to purchase an individual membership at the current rate for each extra employee wishing to become a Fellow of IHA. These extra employees will be treated as Individual Fellows (see clause 2) The Primary Representative is able to nominate himself/herself if the requirements are met. 4. Entitlement 4.1 Once applicants become Fellow members of IHA, they will be able to use the letters F.IHA after their names. 4.2 Fellowship is a benefit of membership; when the membership of the organisation ends for any reason, Nominated Fellows cease to be Fellows and are not entitled to use the letters F.IHA after their names or to benefit from the services of IHA unless they become an individual member of IHA. 5. Change of clause IHA reserves the right to change these terms and conditions from time to time, and the continued use of the title will signify the member s acceptance of such. IHA will give 30 days notice of such changes to the current Fellow members prior to any change becoming effective. 6. Agreement Fellow members accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. The title F.IHA does not imply any form of employment or mandate to represent IHA.
