Weatherization ssistance rogram (W) New York State has been allocated approximately $395,000,000 from the merican Recovery and Reinvestment ct of 2009 (RR) for the Weatherization ssistance rogram to weatherize the homes of thousands of low income New Yorkers and to facilitate the training of the new workers needed to undertake this work. DHR will rely on its existing network of W subgrantees to administer the majority of the funds available under RR and will provide substantial funding for training to increase the capacity of the existing subgrantee network to carry out the lan. Since RR represents a dramatic increase in W funding with very rigid deadlines to spend the funds, DHR is seeking temporary subgrantees to undertake special projects with RR funds for the purpose of targeting multi-family portfolios that have significant need for energy assistance (for example: government assisted housing, public housing, housing for persons with special needs). Subgrantees will be expected to leverage other funds to undertake this activity. Existing subgrantees are also eligible to apply for this funding. Educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, or classified staff of these institutions must be willing to plan and execute a field trip that will provide a demonstrable learning experience for students. Grant funds may be used for visits to art, science, and cultural museums; community service or civics projects; career enrichment opportunities; and other events or activities away from the school facility.
