2 Welcome Message Dear Colleagues, Welcome to the 4th Arabian Tunnelling Conference and 20th Gulf Engineering Forum 2017! We are cordially inviting you to join us for the 4th Arabian Tunnelling Conference (ATC 2017), held in conjunction with the 20th Gulf Engineering Forum (GEF 2017), on the February 2017 at the Ritz Carlton in Dubai International Financial Center, United Arab Emirates. The ATC is the number one networking hub of Tunnelling and Underground Space experts and professionals in the region. The event will focus on Advancing Underground Space through key activities such as conference, exhibition, Young Engineers Forum, awards and the Gulf Engineering Forum. Once again, the ATC 2017 will serve as a gathering of key and influential participants who will network with the engineering professionals, tunnelling experts and regional and international audience. The conference will address challenges and opportunities in advancing underground space and connect international experts and partners in the industry to create sustainable solutions and business opportunities. The 20th Gulf Engineering Forum will highlight the industry advances in the Gulf States, and bring together leading delegations from the Gulf Engineering Union. Endorsed by the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA), Society of Engineers- UAE will organize the ATC2017. Our technical program will present leading-edge technology, updates, significant developments and best practices that support advances in tunnelling and underground space use for infrastructure, transportation, telecommunication, energy, water, storage facilities, waste management and urban planning. We are developing a stimulating programme with inspiring, fresh subject matter. This milestone event will explore advances in the underground space sector and will present case studies and strategies that demonstrate innovation, skills and best practices that will assist delegates in advancing both their knowledge and the industry. Through keynote presentations, parallel sessions and networking, delegates will find ample opportunities to learn new and exciting developments, and mingle with colleagues and leading experts from all over the world. We are looking forward to welcome you to the ATC 2017 and GEF 2017 and we promise that it will be the best international tunnelling gathering in the region. Eng. 3 About Gulf Engineering Union: The Gulf Engineering Union was founded in Kuwait on April GEU consists of the following societies: Society of Engineers-UAE Bahrain Society of Engineers Saudi Council of Engineers Oman Society of Engineers Qatar Society of Engineers Kuwait Society Engineers The Gulf Engineering Forum is held once a year in one of the cities of the GEU members, rotating in alphabetical order, and the United Arab Emirates is honored to host the Gulf Engineering Forum 2017 after six years from hosting it in Gulf Engineering Union Goals: The union aims to Endorse the role of societies/councils of engineers through organizing the practice of engineering professionals, to support the engineering work in Arabian Gulf, and to achieve technical engineering cooperation between GCC countries. Achieve leadership for Gulf Engineers and raise Gulf Engineering qualification and assessments of engineering qualifications. Develop and improve the practices of the profession and upgrade systems by training the Gulf Engineer on new world class methods. Gain a prominent engineering status on the regional and global levels. Strengthening the role of the Gulf engineering bodies in the development of legislation, regulations, and laws such as the field of engineering arbitration. Cooperation in the exchange of expertise and experiences on common engineering issues among the GCC countries

4 International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) The International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that promotes an improved use of underground space as a solution for sustainable development. Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, it is a community of professionals involved in the tunnelling and underground space industry made up of owners, engineers, town planners, architects, designers, both heavy construction and specialized contractors, material and equipment suppliers, lawyers, politicians, academics and researchers, economists, financiers and other stakeholders. ITA currently federates 73 Member Nations, 300 Affiliate Members, including 18 Prime Sponsors and 61 supporters. It is governed by an Executive Council composed of 12 elected members hailing from various Member Nations representing a different aspect of the tunnelling community. The President for the current period is Mr. Tarcisio Celestino, from Brazil and the 4 Vice-Presidents are Mr. Alexandre Gomes (Chile), Mrs. Ruth G Haug (Norway), Mr. Eric Leca (France) and Mrs. Jinxiu Yan (China). One of ITA's key strengths is to bring together more than 20,000 experts, both from the tunnelling industry and from world-class universities around the world, to share their experience during conferences and meetings organized by ITA or its Member Nations. These exchanges are beneficial to both sectors, making academic research available to the industry and giving researchers access to cutting edge technologies and projects in the field. ITA is an international technical-based organization having Special Consultative Status with United Nations since Through it, ITA has been involved with: Habitat II, Feasibility studies to link Europe to Africa, and Poverty Reduction. ITA has also co-organized a seminar on "the use of underground space as an unexpected solution for promoting sustainable development" at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on December 14, ITA is the leading organization promoting the use of underground space through knowledge sharing and application of technology. It seeks to further the exploitation of the subsurface as a solution for sustainable development and to encourage progresses in planning, design, construction, maintenance and safety for tunnels and underground space.

Nominees will have an opportunity to submit their entries only until 10 February After the closing date, all the nominations will be collected and reviewed by the elite panel of judges. Each category of the award will be decided by voting amongst the judges. Winners will be announced only on the day of the awards by the panel of judges and their decisions shall be deemed final. Individual/Organization Nominees can submit up to maximum 3 entries for any Awards Categories. Nominations can be filled online and incomplete entries will be rejected. Jury reserves the right to move the entries from one category to another if necessary. 8 Gulf Engineering Union Award in Engineering Excellence and Innovation The Society of Engineers-UAE, in cooperation with the Gulf Engineering Union, is accepting nominations for the Gulf Engineering Union Award in Engineering Excellence and Innovation. Award Categories: Distinguished persons, who are representing engineering offices Individual people s creative achievements in terms of invention, discovery, or development. The nomination for the award is only made by GCC citizens.
