2 Coffee Talk Series A Chamber Advocacy in Action Program We Mean Business - Brad Karger - Marathon County Administrator Administrator Brad Karger is the Chief Administrative Officer of the County, and as such, prepares the annual executive budget and its communication to the County Board. He coordinates and directs all administrative and management functions of county government not otherwise vested by law in boards, commissions or other elected officers. 4 Brief History of MCDEVCO The Development Corporation of Marathon County was formed in 1979 by a group of Marathon County businessmen & women, led by G. Lane Ware, a partner with the Ruder Ware Law Firm. The name was later changed to Marathon County Development Corporation, which is now referred to as MCDEVCO Inc. MCDEVCO Inc. is a unique 501(c)3 that represents a private public partnership. Financial support comes from Marathon County, Corporate & Individual membership dues and fee income derived from loan servicing and other programs offered to support developing businesses throughout the county. Our mission and vision have not changed.

11 Career Events Workforce Power Development of Now Introduced the Heavy Metal Bus Tour in In 2014, under the direction of NCWWDB, over 3,200 students visited 45 businesses in a 5 county area. Collaborated with NTC in developing Manufacturing 101, an educational program for shop floor employees. Provided financial assistance to UWSP Professor in developing training kits that will be used to introduce Nanotechnology to Marathon County Senior H.S. students in Worked jointly with the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce in creating the Workforce Hub Initiative. Addresses the needs of various industry sectors such as Central Wisconsin Metal Manufacturers Association (CWIMMA). Collaborates with Workforce Development Board and WSP staff to recruit and retain IT professionals.
12 Community Empowerment Oversees the Municipalities Agreement, which provides a collaborative framework for Municipal Partners to competitively pursue economic development projects within the region. Encourages sharing of resources for the benefit of all interested parties. Serves as a resource for local communities in developing and implementing their economic development strategies. Coordinates the development of a Countywide Comprehensive Economic Development Plan.
13 Power Infrastructure of Now Supports Marketing efforts of Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA). Promotes the County s Broadband Initiatives. Collaborates on developing more Business Accelerators. Fosters Regional Economic Activities Centergy, WEDC, WHEDA, WEDA, NCWDB, and NCWRPC. Supports the County s Economic Efforts/Challenges. Supports businesses in all primary business sectors: Manufacturing, IT, Health, Education and Agriculture.

19 Marathon County Economy Local businesses are much more optimistic. Major Concern - Projected Shortage of Skilled Workforce. Insufficient supply of Tenant-Ready Commercial Properties with 10,000 to 100,000 sq.ft. Limited funding sources for entrepreneurial projects and business expansion.
