2 2018 Annual Business Plan Division Purpose & Objectives Community Development Division Kelly Parsons Kwiatek, Cobb Cole, Chair Tom Lobasso, Daytona State College, Vice Chair Janet Kersey, Jim Cameron, Staff Division Purpose: To assess leadership needs for the community while providing training and programs to attract high level talent to both business and community boards. Work with Leadership Daytona Steering Committee to develop and enhance the Leadership Daytona program. Develop guidelines for Leadership Daytona Class Projects and its relationship to the Chamber upon completion. Coordinate a joint social with the VYPG to establish mentorships between the Board and the VYPG. Support the Leadership Daytona Alumni Association and work to build the alumni network by: Increasing membership enrollment by 10%. Coordinating the nominations for the Marvin Samuels Leader of the Year award to be presented at the chamber s awards luncheon. Hosting two (2) Elevate Daytona Beach Events at the News Journal Center. Updating and upgrading the Leadership Alumni Membership E-directory. Leadership Daytona Leadership Daytona Alumni Executive Council Economic Development Frank Molnar, The M Group, Chair Cheryl Coxwell, International Speedway Corp., Vice Chair Nancy Keefer, Jim Cameron, Staff Division Purpose: To support and stimulate growth of tourism, retail and manufacturing while building awareness within the community; provide support to other economic development organizations in the region, both public and private sector. Continue to lead re-development plans for the Gateway to the Beach from the ISB Bridge to AIA. Complete the Investor tool, showcasing the ISB corridor for distribution to prospective developers. Initiate solutions resulting in the beautification of businesses and neighborhoods on the beachside. Plan a local city visit within a day s drive that coincides with similar demographics and best practice experience with development projects. Develop a permanent and sustainable formal relationship with Team Volusia as an economic development partner. Economic Development Committee Intercity/Regional Visit Task Force
3 Government Relations Bart Leek, DBL Security LLC, Chair Tad Durrance, Halifax Paving Inc., Vice Chair Jim Cameron, Staff Division Purpose: To be recognized as the voice for business with our elected officials and their staff at the local and state level by maintaining consistent involvement and communication in strengthening the relationships to affect legislative/ policy/ statute/ changes as needed by our members. Assist in populating appropriate Boards at the City and County levels with pro-business individuals. Prepare a list of positions and openings. Assist with the annual Volusia Day event in Tallahassee to share our member s priorities with our State Senators and Representatives. Develop various surveys for members on business issues. Utilize this information to form positions to be approved by the Board where appropriate. Lobby in support of the Chamber s Legislative and local government priority recommendations for the Serve as a resource on the monthly Eggs & Issues breakfast program. Develop key legislative indicators that tie to a Public Officials Scorecard on votes of importance to business. Continue to support a training program for public officials. Initiate a Congressional Issues Task Force to address issues and maintain contact with our House/Senate representatives on a regular basis. Host an informal quarterly roundtable to inform members of the Chamber s role in City, County, Legislative and Congressional issues. Concentrate on the need to adequately fund transportation/infrastructure needs in Volusia. Re-address the work of the Education Committee to expand its impact on workforce issues. Local Government Committee Legislative Action Committee Education Committee Volusia Day Task Force Congressional Issues Task Force Marketing and Communications Charlie Van Derven, Social Advisors, Chairman John Guthrie, Halifax Health, Vice Chairman Kim Hover, Staff Division Purpose: To drive the creation of clear and concise marketing and communications for key membership areas. Leverage and develop social media platforms to promote Chamber programs. Identify modern forms of engagement to communicate with members. Maximize the tools through WebLink to begin to segment and focus communications to match member s needs. Utilize video to promote Chamber programs, events and to develop testimonials. Work to support the Chamber s brand magazine Evolve through the further development of the Editorial Committee. Assist with the development of a visual year-end report for distribution to the membership.
4 Develop a schedule for surveys for all areas of the Chamber. Drive the creation of clear, concise one-page promotional flyers for broad areas of the chamber s influence. What public policy means to the general member. Fast Start for new members. Leadership and training opportunities. Our role in Economic Development. Develop marketing strategy regarding the Chamber s centennial anniversary in Marketing Committee Editorial Committee - Evolve Centennial Task Force Division Purpose: Grow and Retain Membership. Membership Development Ed Noseworthy, Florida Hospital, Chair Cindy Politis, Bank of America, Vice Chair Jami Gallegos, Staff Develop membership data points to better understand the demographics of our members. Re-evaluate the sales approach and develop an ideal member profile. Provide a list of mission members to the Board each month for assistance with recruitment. Assist with the Annual Membership campaign and ongoing recruitment of members. Continue Chamber 101 program that assists members in realizing greater benefits related to their membership. Develop a 1-page fast-start journey map and video for the first year of membership in the Chamber. Continue Member One Program for Board members and promote at each Board meeting throughout the year. Continue to enhance the Ambassador program, train the Ambassadors and attract more member involvement. Establish a retention committee to conduct existing member outreach prior to renewal. Continue the We Noticed Award recognition of member businesses who have made significant improvements to the aesthetics of their business. Manage the Regional Business Connections Groups as a value-added networking program and train/incentivize members to recruit. Ambassador Committee Membership Committee Regional Business Connections Groups Retention Committee Small Business Development Mike Mitchener, Sam s Club, Chair Ray Schumann, Rice Law Firm, Vice Chair Ken Phelps, Staff Division Purpose: To showcase our small and medium size businesses and develop opportunities to assist in the growth of their business market. Continue to develop and hold training programs through workshops, roundtables and/or seminars in concert with our partners in education and member business experts while improving the Chamber Advantage Series brand.
5 Explore interactive Webinar programming that can be distributed through the Chamber to its members. Evaluate and improve upon the success of the Small Business of the Year Awards and encourage greater participation through staff support. Develop and implement Non-Profit of the Year Award to be presented at the 2018 Annual Luncheon. Continue to develop and hold roundtable sessions for our non-profit members which provide opportunities for collaboration and growth. Small Business Committee Non-Profit Roundtable Special Events Rodney Cruise, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Chair Nellie Kargar, ICI Homes, Vice Chair Ken Phelps, Janet Kersey (Bike Week), Staff Division Purpose: To develop events and programs that enhance the experience of our members, providing them with varying opportunities to network and support the work of the Chamber. Focus on driving and building attendance/revenue for each event. Continue to lead the coordination and development of Bike Week, an internationally known festival for motorcycle enthusiasts. Begin to formally explore the changing demographics of the Bike Week event and develop a multi-year strategy to review the management agreement with the City and outline budget and staffing implications. Manage networking events, monthly and/or quarterly, to encourage member involvement. Select locations for events that are unique to entice and improve attendance. Measure the success of events based on attendance, financial impact or other determined metrics using previous events and trends as a benchmark. Develop and implement an Economic Forecast Breakfast event with a target event date of December Maintain and improve annual events that provide members with an opportunity to connect in social ways and position these events as fundraisers for the Chamber to assist in growing products and services for the business community. Consider the development of a committee to help improve and expand ideas for signature events including: Annual Dinner Meeting Annual Awards Luncheon Annual Business Links Golf Tournament Bike Week Festival Task Force Bike Week Future Strategy Task Force Annual Golf Links Committee Special Events Committee Additional Key Areas of Focus (Non-Division) Complete and begin implementation of Strategic Plan Begin formal discussions regarding the location of the Chamber office by establishing a Headquarters Task Force.
