2 What is a Milestone? During the Grant and or Contract Agreement process, milestones are deliverables that are agreed upon between the Grantee and sponsor. Types of Milestones can be as follows: Technical Billing Financial Closeout 1

3 Importance of Milestones Funding bodies monitor the funds they provide to an institution, and require that funds are spent as agreed, that milestones are met and that the project is completed on time. In some cases, sponsors may take into account a researcher s ability to deliver agreed outcomes in a timely fashion when considering a subsequent funding request. Not abiding by the conditions of award/funding agreement may lead to repercussions including, termination of funding. 2

11 Budget Detail Page The information entered on the budget detail page is used to show PI and Co-PI committed effort on the proposal approval webform. It is also used to enter committed effort on the project team page. Content Blocked 10

24 Automatic Closeout Report and Effort The ACR report only looks at Cost Shared Effort commitments that are entered into the budget lines in PeopleSoft. The expended amount comes from expenditures that are tagged with the grant project and post to the system. Content Blocked Content Blocked 23

25 Automatic Closeout Report and Effort The Labor Allocations Module section is a good tool to use during the life of the award as it tells you who is tagged to the project for both direct and cost share salaries. It is also a reminder at the end of the award to change the LAM so no additional salaries post to the award. Content Blocked 24
