2 HISTORY HUD established an International Affairs office 22 years ago as a diplomatic liaison for international counterparts. Seven years ago, Philanthropic Innovation was added to ensure the office partnered internationally and domestically to foster strategic global relationships that could generate resources, knowledge, and partnerships directly benefiting HUD s mission and core goals.

10 CASES OF SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP ACTIVITIES: PHILANTHROPIC NEED PIC NEED PIC Secretary Donovan, using his authority, secured a $2.5M gift for the Strong Cities, Strong Communities Fellows program OSF providing added staff capacity on HUD s development of AFFH through the Intergovernment Personnel Act (IPA) Raikes co-investing with HUD on national estimate and study of youth homelessness and discovery of innovative solutions A GIFT ADDED CAPACITY ALIGNED INVESTMENT

11 CASES OF SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP ACTIVITIES: PHILANTHROPIC NEED PIC NEED PIC IPI partnered with CPD to produce an in-depth how-to guide detailing ways in which government and philanthropies are leveraging each other s strengths to deliver results for communities Rockefeller teamed with 350 publicand private-sector experts to host 9 capacity building academies to help communities make more effective investments of HUD CDBG-DR dollars HUD and the Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded $8.7 million to address homelessness and reduce recidivism among this justice-involved population through the Pay for Success model RESEARCH ALIGNED INVESTMENT SOCIAL FINANCING

12 CASES OF SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP ACTIVITIES: INTERNATIONAL NEED PIC NEED PIC Through a diverse set of peer learning activities, Dialogues for Change grows a transatlantic network, while supporting the real-time implementation of projects in German and American cities HUD, in partnership with the Department of State, led the U.S. government preparations for Habitat III, the once in 20 year United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development The Foreign Exchange section of Cityscape, a quarterly research journal from PD&R, highlights innovative practices in cities and suburbs across the world that might influence HUD s work EXCHANGE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH
