Summary of partner activities and partner plans for the following quarter. o The table below provides partner activities and plans for the next quarter; for the full list of partner activities, refer to the Consolidated Partners activities handout. 3 PARTNER ACTIVITIES To continue developing NPP s implementation plan To do public lectures Finalization of Engage rolling out with FPAM PRB Family planning promotion which would also include boys and girls. Engage media to raise awareness about the population weekend Conduct data validation meeting for ImpactNOW Continue supporting with TWG/conduct TWG population and development Retreat. FPAM Continue engage roll out ADRA implementation of ENGAGE roll out. Contraceptive launch in September USAID MALAWI Continue supporting programmes aimed at promoting the integration of population issues into development projects/programmes. Note that USAID does not conduct the activities but rather supports the activities so that they are successful. Ministry of To strengthen girls only clubs on SRH Youth Launch of National Youth Policy Condom campaigns with NAC Hold open days on sexuality education in select districts (Nkhata Bay, Mchinji, Dedza, Mangochi and Chiradzulu NYCOM Continue the project on HIV/AIDS with NAC. YONECO Reinforce help line for the youth. Upgrading the SMS system Continue with civic education of life skills on SRH Conduct training on sexuality in September for the youth. Continue parenting and SRH training Conduct theatre for development. CHANCO DPS To use the newly launched CHANCO community radio to help disseminate population messages. BLM Strengthen youth SRH services Training of ministry of health and CHAM representatives on long term and permanent methods. To collaborate with stakeholders when implementing long term and permanent contraception FP activities. To liaise with stakeholders at community level Other partners were absent as a result their plans for the next quarter were not captured, but follow up will be made through Approval Date: <Date or 'DRAFT'> Page 3 of 5
4 Updates on ENGAGE District Roll out o FPAM presented the ENGAGE District roll out o FPAM observed that District level leaders including traditional leaders are showing greater interest in having FP services brought closer to their people. For instance, T/A Malili was one of the leaders who showed great interest by requesting for FP services to his area. Updates on population weekend with religious mother bodies. HPP briefed participants on progress to date on population weekend activities: o in collaboration with, HPP held first population weekend planning meeting with the religious mother bodies on 27 th June, At this meeting, and HPP briefed the religious leaders on the link between population and development. And then introduced the idea of population weekend to reach out to majority of Malawians through trusted sources. Participants were briefed that a weekend can be set aside whereby population messages could be disseminated on Friday by Muslims, Saturday by SDA and Sunday by the rest of Christian churches. o Compiled existing IEC materials and held second meeting with the religious mother bodies on 15 th July, 2013 to review the IEC materials and select the most suitable and adapt them for population weekend. o Held a media briefing meeting for media to effectively cover the population weekend event. o Regional population weekend sensitisation meetings for religious leaders are scheduled for August 1 in Mzuzu, August 5 in Blantyre and August 7 in Lilongwe. o HPP will print and plans to distribute population weekend IEC materials during the regional meetings. Briefing on Women FP/RH Champions training o Velia Manyonga representative from Malawi Parliament briefed members about the women FP/RH regional women leaders training conducted in Nairobi Kenya in May 2013 and four women from Malawi participated, including herself. o The Malawi team developed an action plan focusing on advocacy for integrating population issues in Ministry of Education s curricula for schools. The women champions plan to lobby parliamentarians to help allocate some funds to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to enable it incorporate population issues in its curriculum which is being revised. Plans and Agenda for October 2013 TWG. o Nissily will draft tentative agenda items for the October meeting and circulate them so that members of TWG would make their comments, additions and amendments. 5 4 MEETING ACTION ITEMS Action Assigned To Deadline Circulate National Communication and Advocacy Strategy for Population and Development to members of TWG. Follow up on the progress on approval of the National Communication and Advocacy Strategy for Population and Development. Report the type of challenges against progress of approval of the strategy. Organise a workshop with management of so as to advocate for population and development issues. This was thought to facilitate the approval process of population and development activities. This can be part of the October TWG retreat. Coordinate development of messages on population and development as not to give conflicting messages by liaising with SSDI and BLM as the latter have also developed similar messages. Retrieve the act on National Population Council to get a benchmark on how to proceed with proposed Population Council Partners (Mr. Ngaiyaye was mentioned as contact person to help accomplish the action in question) Within one week One week Share printed fact sheets for certain districts. FPAM As soon as possible Share the statement for the population weekend to partners of TWG on Advocacy and Communication Strategy for population and development. Conduct a review on progress in implementation of the National Communications and Advocacy for Population and Development Determine date for plan of action meeting. Circulate the concept note on population and development champions in Malawi. Increase the supply for family planning services. It was thought that demand for the same was high but there was low supply.
