1 2018 University of Arizona Discovery Days Scavenger Hunt Rules & Guidelines Notice: This is a photo-based scavenger hunt. We encourage artfully framed, fun photographs, even if taken with a cell phone camera. That being said, no extra points are awarded for quality of photos submitted as the judges are unable to objectively do this. This Scavenger Hunt is a part of the University of Arizona s first Discovery Days hosted by Research, Discovery, & Innovation (RDI), an event to celebrate all things research at the UA! RDI enables the research success of faculty and students by supporting university research centers, institutes, museums and core facilities. The University of Arizona is a world-class environmental research institution, and its commitment to the environment extends well beyond the classrooms and laboratories to the campus and its operations. In order to show off some of the cool places, facilities, and features supporting environmental sustainability at UA, the Institute of the Environment and ASUA Students for Sustainability have created the Discovery Days Scavenger Hunt. This photo-based scavenger hunt will take students to environment- and sustainability-themed points of interest across campus. In the spirit of discovery, participants will uncover a plethora of new information, resources, and programs that the UA has to offer, all while vying for more than 100 prizes and the opportunity for extra credit in select UA courses. RDI Discovery Days runs from February 16th to February 22nd, with this Scavenger Hunt running alongside it from 8am on Monday, February 19th to 5pm on Wednesday February 21st. Extra credit will be offered for participants in select classes. Course that are offering extra credit for participation include: ABE 170A2 Peter Waller ARC 160D1 Wendy Lotze ENVS 210 Jacqueline Maximillian Joan Curry ENVS 170A1 Jacqueline Maximillian Monica Ramirez GEOS 170A1 Martin Pepper GEOS 170C1 Ji Yeon Shin HWR 170A1 Hoshin Gupta GEOG 150C1 Tracey Osborne Before starting the Scavenger Hunt, please read the following rules and guidelines to ensure proper compliance. Violations will result in disqualification from prizes and/or extra credit for individuals or team members. Outstanding questions can be submitted to rdiscavengerhunt@gmail.com. The planning and execution of the 2018 Discovery Days Scavenger Hunt was a collaboration between the Institute of the Environment, ASUA Students for Sustainability, and UA Business Affairs Sustainability.

2 1. First and foremost, we encourage you to have fun with this scavenger hunt! 2. The Discovery Days Scavenger Hunt is meant to be educational and to connect students to environmental- and sustainability-themed opportunities and aspects of the UA campus. As such, each clue within the scavenger hunt list contains multiple applicable links and resources that we encourage each participant to further investigate. 3. Individuals or teams may compete. No more than 3 students may be a part of a team and teams are on their honor to stay together throughout the course of the scavenger hunt. 4. If you are a part of a team, photos that require a selfie must feature all team members, or no points will be awarded. 5. If participating as a team, only ONE submission of photos is required. Please provide the judges the names and contact s of all team members when you submit your photos (see below for guidance). 6. If applicable, please also provide the course number(s) for which you (and your teammates) are seeking extra credit. Course instructors have individual requirements as to how many points participants must earn in order to qualify for extra credit, so please check with your instructor for details. 7. When submitting your pictures, please carefully follow the instructions below and see the list of screenshots and expanded instructions on later pages: Create a Google Drive folder, labeled with a team name or your first and last name. Label each photo as follows: CLUE 1, CLUE 2, CLUE 3, etc. NOTE: CLUE 6 will have a screenshot for each member of your team, if applicable. Label these CLUE 6.1, CLUE 6.2, CLUE 6.3. Right click on the Google folder and click Share. Enter rdiscavengerhunt@gmail.com in the field. In the Add a note field, enter the name of each participant, their UA , and applicable course that each student is seeking extra credit in, if applicable. Please also enter the top 3 prizes that each participant would prefer (prizes listed at research.arizona.edu/scavenger-hunt). If you have comments for the judges, please also enter them here. Submissions that do not follow the above steps may not be judged and may not earn a prize or extra credit, if applicable, as a result. 8. Submissions will be judged by total points, not by order of submission, except in the event of a total point tie.

3 9. Duplicate picture submissions by different teams will result in disqualification of both submissions, including the ability to earn extra credit. 10. For clues in which more than one point value is given, only one submission is allowed (i.e. if you can earn 5 points for one picture and 10 points for another within the same clue, only one picture will be accepted). 11. CLUE 6 requires all participants to separately screenshot the required answer. Points will only be awarded if everyone on a team submits a screenshot, labeled CLUE 6.1, CLUE 6.2, CLUE 6.3 (if you have 3 people on your team). CLUE 2 does not share this requirement. 12. Pictures that do not correctly frame the desired answer based upon the clue will be awarded no points. 13. Judging should be complete by Monday, February 26th. You will be notified of your final score, placement, and prize (if within the top 100 participants) once all submissions have been judged. Your instructor will also be notified of your final score as applicable following judging for extra credit distribution (even if you do not place in the top 100 for prize distribution). 14. Those seeking extra credit are eligible for prizes as well. 15. Prizes will be distributed to the top ~100 point earners (including individuals within teams), with participant preference for a prize considered while supplies last (see below). Participation does not guarantee you a prize if there is a high volume of competitors. 16. All prizes will be available for pick-up by Wednesday, February 28th at the Institute of the Environment in ENR2, room N582. In order to pick up your prize, you will be required to show your CatCard. Participants may NOT pick up prizes for other participants, including teammates.

4 How To Submit Your Photos Once you have uploaded your photos to your computer and properly labeled them (CLUE1, CLUE2, CLUE3, etc.), use the following steps for submission of your photos. Photos may also be renamed in the Google Drive folder if preferred (right click the photo and select Rename ). Step 1: Navigate to drive.google.com. Click New, then Folder. Enter your team name or first and last name if not part of a team. Click Create.

5 Step 2: Enter the folder you just created. To upload your photos, right click and select Upload files.... Locate the folder in which your photos reside and select all of them to upload. Tip: Hold down the Shift button to select a continuous line of photos or the CTLR button to select individual photos one at a time.

6 Step 3: Once you have uploaded all photos and properly labeled them, navigate back into your Drive. Right click your scavenger hunt folder and click Share. In the field, add You may also choose to add in your teammates s, if applicable. In the Add a note field, enter your name and (and your teammate s names and s) as well as the applicable course (if seeking extra credit) and each person s top 3 prizes preferences (again, prizes offered are available at research.arizona.edu/scavenger-hunt) as seen below. Ensure that the Anyone with the link can view option is selected. Click Send and you should be good to go! **Be sure you enter the correctly as you will not receive a confirmation until judging has concluded, so incorrectly submitted photos will not be judged.** That s it!
