7 The Louisiana Wildlife Fisheries Foundation The Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation was formed to provide a means for individuals and corporations to become partners with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) in the challenge of conserving and protecting Louisiana s wildlife and fish resources to ensure they remain available for future generations. LDWF identifies conservation issues and develops solutions that can be implemented through strategic partnerships with companies like Chevron. The Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana (CCA Louisiana) works to educate the public on marine resource conservation and to enhance coastal resources for the enjoyment of future generations. With Chevron s support, CCA Louisiana attracts more than 13,000 fishing enthusiasts to Louisiana waters for the Statewide Tournament and Anglers Rodeo, which serves as a strong economic driver in south Louisiana s summer months. Whooping Crane Reintroduction Coastal Conservation through Artificial Reefs 10 As recently as 1941, only 16 whooping cranes existed in total, bringing the species to the brink of extinction due to habitat loss, farming, and hunting. Several of these birds called southwest Louisiana home, and others used Louisiana land as wintering grounds. Today, the Foundation and LDWF are leaders in whooping crane conservation work, and through a multifaceted partnership with Chevron and the Audubon Nature Institute, monitor whooping crane nests and chicks, track the status and health of the crane population, and educate the public on respecting Louisiana s wildlife resources. In November 2017, 12 juvenile whooping cranes were released into LDWF Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Grand Chenier as part of an ongoing effort to protect the species from extinction. The juvenile cranes join 49 other whooping cranes that are a part of an experimental population being monitored by LDWF. Today, there are approximately 400 whooping cranes in the wild and more than 150 individual cranes residing in research and wildlife facilities. CCA Louisiana and Chevron have partnered to create several artificial reefs along coastal Louisiana made from crushed concrete and limestone. These manmade reefs contribute to coastal restoration, reestablish habitat for local marine life, and serve as popular recreational fishing destinations. In 2017, Chevron and CCA Louisiana partnered on the construction of an enhancement to the Point Mast Reef in Lake Pelto, the southwestern portion of Terrebonne Bay, Louisiana. This was the second enhancement to the original Point Mast reef, constructed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in An additional 3,500 tons of crushed limestone was added by CCA Louisiana in This project marks the third reef-building collaboration between CCA Louisiana and Chevron and is the 22nd artificial reef overall to be built by CCA Louisiana. In total, CCA has constructed more than $8 million in marine habitat projects on the Louisiana coast. This addition will be comprised of approximately 1200 tons of crushed limestone and will create between two and three acres of new reef habitat on the site. 11

Supporting the Working Coast: Port Fourchon, Louisiana Living Shoreline Oyster Reef Restoration Chevron is a major supporter of TNC s continuing work to conserve oyster reefs, which are vital to the protection of Louisiana s coastline. Oyster reefs serve as living shorelines, offering structure to the shoreline, protection against storm surge and coastal erosion, and valuable habitat for fish, shellfish, and oysters. TNC has been working since 2014 to construct oyster restoration and shoreline protection projects in southwest Louisiana. In 2017, TNC and Chevron collaborated to expand the living shoreline program along the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Calcasieu Parish, adding 500 linear feet, and catalyzing a project that was ultimately a mile in length. This project brought the total to six miles of established artificial oyster reef statewide. Port Fourchon is Louisiana s southernmost port, located 100 miles south of New Orleans. The Port supplies the U.S. with approximately 18 percent of its total oil supply. More than 250 companies utilize Port Fourchon as a base of operations and contribute over 90 percent of the Gulf of Mexico s deepwater oil production. As Port Fourchon continues to grow, there are plans to deepen the Port s access channel, which could yield more than 20 million cubic yards of dredged sediment. The Water Institute has created a public-private-ngo partnership with Chevron and other organizations to determine the best natural way to use the dredged material by orchestrating the testing and prioritization of a variety of ecosystems projects including marsh creation, marsh terracing, and ridge restoration. This, in turn, will help the Port, local communities, Chevron, and others develop site-specific, cost-effective mitigation strategies and projects to fight the impacts of ongoing land loss. The project will conclude in May 2018, and will serve as a model of collaborative coastal planning and shared funding along the Gulf Coast, across the country, and likely around the world
