Tier- 1 services for Tier- 1 are being considered, but need to be defined more clearly Most members have expressed their interest to parccipate, and have formed a working group The group meets regularly and discusses content of the OP
Competitiveness Council, May 29-30, 2013: Conclusions on 'High Performance Computing: Europe's place in a Global Race (EC communication Feb. 2012) STRESSES the importance of the provisioning, use and supply of HPC for Europe ACKNOWLEDGES the efforts of PRACE RECOGNISES the need of all relevant actors in public and private to work in partnership ASKS the Commission to explore funding possibilices and instruments to support the development of leadership- class HPC systems on the global market on the basis of open compeccon to address the needs of various HPC user communices; INVITES member states and EC to various accons: CoEs, Soeware development, educacon & training, supply industry directed hup:// pressdata/en/intm/ pdf

Access Model Accessing the PRACE RI Proposals are evaluated in a single European peer review process governed by the PRACE ScienCfic Steering Commiuee. Two types of resource allocacons for Tier- 0 Project access large- scale, computaconally intensive projects Preparatory access - Test / evaluacon access, code scaling and opcmizacon DECI (Distributed European CompuMng IniMaMve) Access to naconal Tier- 1 systems Support by experts from Tier- 1 centres Tier- 1 OpMonal programme Currently in preparacon
Preparatory access PRACE Preparatory access is managed through rolling call, opened all year round. There are no closing dates but technical evaluacons are organised every 3 months at defined cut- off dates Types of preparatory access Type A: Code scalability tests (max 2 months) Applicants may use this preparatory access to obtain scalability plots of the performance of the code on a certain HPC system; this allows the applicant to obtain use of up- to- date informacon when applying to PRACE Project access type of calls. Type B. Code development and opcmisacon (max 6 months) Applicants may use preparatory access to undertake adaptacons to the applicacon code. Applicants will need to describe the proposed development plan in detail, including the human resources (and expercse) available to implement the project. Type C. Code development and opcmisacon with the support of PRACE experts (max 6 months) Applicants use this type of access for the same purposes as type B. In addicon, under preparatory access type C, the applicants may require the support of PRACE experts to improve the applicacon code. AdministraMve ValidaMon: 2 working days aeer the cut- off date AllocaMon Decision: approx. 30 calendar days aeer the cut- off date Access Start Date: Access is provided starcng approx. 45 calendar days aeer the cut- off date. Next cut- off dates 2nd December :00 AM CET 3rd March nd June 2014
Project access PRACE will publish its twice- yearly Calls for Proposals according to a fixed rhythm: Call opens in February - > Access is provided starcng September of the same year. Call opens in September - > Access is provided starcng March of the next year. The PRACE peer review consists of two phases of assessment: technical and sciencfic. Technical assessment The need to use a PRACE resource Soeware availability on the requested resource Feasibility of the requested resource ScienMfic assessment ScienCfic excellence Novelty and transformacve qualices Relevance to the call Methodology DisseminaCon Management Next 9 th call opens In February 2014
Project access Project accessdeci (Distributed European CompuMng IniMaMve) targets large- scale, computaconally intensive projects that would not be possible or produccve without access to PRACE resources. ApplicaCons for Project Access must use codes that have been previously tested and that demonstrate high scalability and opcmisacon to mulc- core architectures or that demonstrate a requirement for ensemble simulacons that need a very large amount of CPU overall.
